I know that Bush is dumb and that he is evil, but calling him Hitler is a little extreme. I am sure Bush would like to be a dictator, but he is not dictator now, so for now he is not Hitler....maybe later! :kick:

of 1930s Germany, when the people were led like dumb little sheep into the trap of the fascists.

He did not graduate from school and when he was an artist noone wanted to buy his art. He was good public speaker though, something Bush can't do! Hitler was an extreme racist, Bush does not even know what word racist means, lol! They are both evil, but Hitler was a true scumbag! Bush is getting there......:kick:

as are his minions.

they are a whole new thing, the culmination of decades of planning and destructive, manipulative foreign policy and contempt for Democracy since at the very least, the days of Nixon. Probably since FDR.

Eisenhower saw it and tried to warn us about the military industrial complex.

And here we are.

We know what is done in his name today. There are some rumors no one wants to pursue of problems before he became Governor in Texas. Today there is nothing as messy as racial genocide, and much of his slaughter has an air of legitimacy for this "War President". He is a brutal force as his Narcissism and Megalomania grow.

Two ways he is not like Hitler.

1. Probably not as intelligent as Hitler.
2. Not as independent as Hitler (many decisions are made elsewhere)

20. Granted but neither is Bush. I doubt ** Intelligence equaled Hitler.
Call it what you want "Spearmans" G, or Gardner's Multiple Intelligence theory, Hitler had more than Bush. Hitler was uneducated and that in itself does not reflect on "Intelligence".

An example: Adolph's speeches mesmerized millions of Germans, when have you heard of Bush doing the same? Even Bush supporters do not praise his delivery and laugh at his mastery of English. Hitler's German from what I have read was not outstanding but his ability timing, and dramatic delivery made up for this fault. Hitler understood his audience and was able to work them up into a fury.

Adolph hoodwinked an entire nation largely on his own. W would never be able to do this alone and unsupported.

I am convinced both men were/are mentally ill. On that account (so far) Hitler trumps Bush.

38. Graduating or not graduating from school isn't a level of one's
intelligence.

I beg to differ. Hitler was extremely intelligent in matters that interested him.

And, big flip if he was a bad artist. I know lots of intelligent people who couldn't draw a stick figure. What does that prove? (I, myself, can draw very well, for the record.)

=========
What Bush has done that is Nazi-Like is:

1. He and his republiNazi Party treat Democrats as if we are the enemy. Much like Hitler treated the Jews. Bush does the same to the Gays, poor people, blacks and hispanics.

2. Bush has almost total control of the Congress, and he's working on the courts. Hitler had total control too. Bush also seems to have control of the media, with the exception of the internet.

3. Bush has fanatical followers, just as Hitler did.

4. Bush is delusional, just as Hitler was.

21. My thoughts
DEA - I would legalize drugs and release nonviolent drug offenders. This would free up a lot of money and stop a lot of the killing that takes place. Some of this money would then be focused on prevention and rehab. I AGREE WITH YOU HERE.

IRS - Not totally but I would abolish income tax and charge a national sales tax. This is progressive since the rich spend more than the poor. You would also get a check to cover whatever is deemed to be what you need to cover basic goods, or what a poor family would need to get by. This would free up a lot of tax evasion (and admittedly create a black market) and free up the money and time that corporations and individuals spend on their taxes. Also, illegal immigrants would have to pay taxes if they choose to buy anything. MY PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT IT WOULD PUT THE BURDEN ON MIDDLE AND LOWER CLASS EARNERS. A SALES TAX WOULD NOT AFFECT THE WEALTHY, BUT IT WOULD AFFECT EVERYONE ELSE. GOOD POINT TO PONDER THOUGH. I THINK WE ARE SO DEEP IN OUR NATIONAL DEBT THAT TAX CUTS OR TAX REFORM WILL HAVE TO WAIT. YOUR IDEA FOR THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WOULD NOT BE PRACTICAL - THAT'S JUST MY OPINION.

Dept. of Education - I am convinced that this govt. agency does any good and would put this back at the state level. THIS IS A LONGSTANDING REPUBLICAN IDEA. THAT MAKES ME NERVOUS.

National Endowment for the Arts - I'm not sure why this industry is federally funded in the first place. Hand it to the free market. ANOTHER RIGHT WING IDEA. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT WHEN WE ARE IN DEFICIT SPENDING, THIS SHOULD BE A LOW PRIORITY. BUT THE ARTS ARE IMPORTANT.

That's a few of them. I would also convert welfare into free housing that provides you with everything you need: food, shelter, and yes, healthcare. People can live there and get job training so they may get back on their feet. THIS IS BASICALLY WHAT WELFARE IS NOW - BUT THEY CAN'T LIVE THERE FOREVER, ALTHOUGH MANY PEOPLE LIVE IN SECTION 8 HOUSING FOR YEARS AND YEARS.

Healthcare - Make it a two tier system that gives those that choose to paid healthcare and then everyone else has socialized medicine. It's not fair to force a government system on everyone. Hopefully getting rid of some of the above agencies will help to fund this. Also, stop making corporations pay for the healthcare and make it possible to purchase on an individual level for those that choose to pay for it. This will allow for better service for those that need it, and the improved competition will create more efficient healthcare providers, and as a result lower prices will occur. These innovations can be borrowed by the government to help fund the socialized portion of this plan. HAD WE KEPT BALANCING BUDGETS, HELD THE LINE ON TAX CUTS, REDUCED FOREIGN AID,AND NOT INCREASED THE SIZE OF THE GOVT. AS BUSH HAS, WE COULD HAVE EEVENTUALLY DONE THIS WITHOUT SLASHING PROGRAMS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO A LOT OF PEOPLE (LIKE SOCIAL SECURITY). AND JUST THINK OF THE TAX REVENUES THAT WE WOULD GET FROM LEGALIZING MARIJUANA AND PROSTITUTION. I LIKE THE IDEA OF NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE.
Love to see anyone's comments.

35. Hey Joey
actually the middle class purchase FAR more than the wealthy do. Why do you think they're WEALTHY? It's not from throwing their money around all over the place, I can tell you that.

A national sales tax at the level we would need to keep up revenue at its current level would be incredibly prohibitive.

Hey would you like a $32 bottle of soda? Yay! :D

23. That's a lot of different subjects and a lot of different arguments
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 09:58 PM by NCevilDUer
each worthy of a thread on its own.

I'll comment on one of them.

There should be no "free market" or competition in the healthcare field. If a person has broken his leg in three places, is he going to choose the lowest priced competitor, or the place he can get to fastest?

I think the last few decades have shown us that competition in the healthcare "industry" creates higher prices, not lower, because with the preeminent profit motive at play the bookkeepers and insurance companies know that people will pay anything to make the pain go away, and they take advantage of that. Hospital administrators should be worrying about delivering healthcare, not delivering profits to the shareholders.

Who makes the most money in healthcare? Heart surgeons? Plastic surgeons? Psychiatrists?

Uh uh.

Insurance companies.

A national health care plan, organized and funded in much the same way that Social Security is, would eliminate better than 50% of health care costs by taking it out of the hands of the insurance industry. Let those leeches prey on life insurance, car and home insurance, and give healthcare back to the people.

And BTW, welcome to DU.

31. As another poster said on a thread about national health care
"Health care doesn't belong in the for profit sector because illness is not a consumer decision."

Look, if some rich cat wants to have a private room, and catered meals provided by a personal chef, fine. He can pay for it, or can carry supplemental insurance for it.

But there is nothing inherent about wealth that makes him more worthy of quality healthcare than Joe Sixpack.

If you have a two-tiered system, it will only be a matter of time before some republican asshole will cut funding for the lower tier, because they don't pay enough taxes to support their own healthcare. The lower class, the underclass will be trapped in a decaying, increasingly obsolete healthcare system while the upper echelons will funnel tax money away to themselves to pay for their fat farms, detox centers and plastic surgery.

In other words, it will be just like it is today.

The government can do a fine job, if the people running it are not ideologically opposed to their own jobs. I was raised an army brat, and all my life I got government healthcare and dental care, as did my parents and sisters, which was every bit as good any any I have gotten since leaving the military. People become physicians to help people, not to get rich. Insurance salesmen, on the other hand, don't give a fuck about you -- they are in it for the money.

The 'for-profit healthcare industry' is designed not to provide healthcare for patients, but to provide profits for shareholders and insurance companies. The result is that the US has the highest rate of infant death in the industrial nations, a lower longevity rate than most industrial nations, and the highest health costs of all the industrial nations. We are paying more and getting less than all those countries that have national health plans -the "socialized medicine" that you seem to fear so much.

A good doctor that works for an HMO will be just as good a doctor working for National Health - which is, in effect, just another HMO but one which is not out to soak the patient. A doctor who is in it just for the money is in the wrong business.

33. If the patient is bribing a physician to work outside the legal
framework of his profession, yes. Jail them both. By paying for extraordinary attention, he could be taking the physician away from a poor patient who probably needs him more.

If the fat cat wants to go outside the system, let him leave the country.

Ideally, the doctor would not know which patient is rich and which is poor, because all expenses will be covered by the government. Would you like it if you were up for a liver transplant, but some rich asshole slipped the operating physician an extra $100,00 to put him in line ahead of you?

Third world countries run on bribery. Not America.

16. Yes, Hitler was, and Bu*h is, a psychopath. Although
Commander Cuckoobananas has not yet equalled Hitler in number and scope of heinous deeds committed, his obvious and documented total lack of honesty, conscience, and disregard for the inalienable rights of people and for human life fully indicates that he could very well equal or surpass Hitler in the "world leader lunatic madman" category if he is given, or takes, the opportunity.

So yeah, I agree. He is the Hitler of this generation.

30. Reading about him in John Toland's book...
..."ADOLF HITLER" I found some of the things that made him popular to so many. And maybe why they followed him to destruction.

"...paved the way to social security & old age benefits.
...defied tradition to expand production and curb unemployment - combined with wage & price controls
...opened the AuthoBahn & ordered construction of the Volkwagen cheap enough for the average German.
...Envisaged other innovations for the future...automated underground parking, traffic-free centers, numerous parks and green areas, and Strict Pollution Control.
...Encouraged industry to work toward the complete elimination of noxious gases. New plants required to construct preventive devices to avoid pollution of the waters.
...Welfare and training of the youth given priority - character-building alongside semi-deification of Hitler. (As British Ambassador Phipps wrote 'methodically educated, mentally and physically to defend the country.')
...Raised the standards of health. (Sir Arnold Wilson M.P. wrote 'infant mortality has been greatly reduced and is considerably inferior to Britain. Tuberculosis and other diseases have noticeably diminished. The criminal courts have never had so little to do and the prisons have never had so few occupants. Even the poorest are better clothed.')
...Working conditions improved with more windows, less crowding and better washrooms.
...Offices and workrooms were kept clean; abundant flowers around the workplace.
...Subsidized concerts, theater performances, dances, films and adult education courses.
...Subsidized tourism - the humblest laborer and his family could travel aboard luxury liners.
...Single-class ships constructed with employers and white-collar personnel placed on equal basis with the workers."

Adolf Hitler by John Toland
doubleday & company inc., garden city new york 1976

*Kinda had to give up personal freedom and civil rights for all the niceties, though; but they believed & followed him all those years.
*Gotta give Hitler the edge on foreplay before starting his wars - Bush just rushed to war.

36. For God's sake, Bush is not a Nazi. He's a damn Corporatist.
The Nazi Party was defeated and disbanded in 1945, after upwards of 50,000,000 people died in that war. Only a few remnants remain in the form of Neo-Nazi groups, but that's it. GWB is not a member of the Nazi Party, and as far as I know, he never was.

The only thing that survives from that time that is still incredibly potent and incredibly dangerous is Corporatism. You could argue Bush is a Fascist if you buy Mussolini's argument that it should be redefined as Corporatism.
