I'm really thinking of getting rid of the SaTV.
There are no channels worth watching for news anymore.

The educational channels have become stale with the same shows run over and over again.

I'm not into sports.

Now, it seems every show is going to be a reality show, the latest, "The Scholar".

The only shows that are worthwhile are on HBO.

I think I would keep the TV for DVDs only.

Anybody else thinking the same or have done the same?

1. Dump it for sure if you have DIRECTV.
Murdoch owns them now.

Watch baseball and football from every city in the U.S. And with my tivo, I wouldn't have cable for free

C-Span and the Daily Show are the only things worth watching. (and the occasional HGTV and "Who's Line is it Anyway" for comic relief)

13. I watch World News channel and you get truthfull reporting.
Also watching the CBC with better reporting than any network in the U.S. You don't get that on rip-off cable companies.

4. Have no plans to dump it.....
I do not watch much tv, but when I do feel like watching, there are some good options, mainly the movie channels, I watch I lot of IFC and Sundance.

5. Don't Have
SaTV, but we do have cable. But the cable is mainly for my spouse and she is getting kind of tired of the same old same old. What I do enjoy is the radio and also those news/information programs over the net.

Such as CBC, Radio Netherlands, Germany, BBC and others. All in english. I am sure that there are more and also in other languages as well.

Behind the times though. Don't have a DVD yet.

7. I wouldn't have a DVD either if my husband and I
didn't get one for Christmas, the year before last. It's a lot better than a VCR though and the disks take up less storage than the tapes.

6. Yes, this thought has occurred to me
Bill Moyers is now off the air! Damn jerks screwing up PBS! Bill Moyers out. Wall Street Journal in. WTF? Where's the "public" in the Wall St. Journal?

Bill Maher's writers weren't nearly as good this year, and many of his conservative guests just stifled thoughtful discussion by trying to score cheap debating points rather than engage in substantive debate. Many seemed to be trying to run out the clock.

Even "The Daily Show" seems to have lost some of its edge/punch. (I fear their new corporate overlords are watering it down.)

I haven't given it up yet because:

C-SPAN: occasionally great coverage

Charlie Rose

Scientific Frontiers (with Alan Alda)

Seinfeld reruns (yeah, I've seen them, but it's one of the few shows fun the second or third or fourth time)

My beloved New England Patriots (who play more than six months a year, since they always win the S.B.)

Sports Century profiles of larger-than-life sports figures

That's about it. Pretty sad.

9. One thing to keep in mind
is that most HBO shows end up on DVD anyway. You'd just have to wait a few months.

Netflix is a good deal and now they have a 1 DVD at a time deal for $10 a month, and a few other plans as well.

12. Right with you this. Thought it was just me!
Oh, I know how you feel! Sick of it! Absolutely nothing on. The only thing keeping me hanging-in is "C-SPAN/C-SPAN 2!" It's the only way I can see what's actually going on on that wicked Hill!

Have you noticed the stinkin' 700 Club has more then 1 station now!?!
And that Military channel is from the Pentagon. It's just above those 2 free Disney children's channels... real nice, huh.

Called SATV and complained. The guy laughed at me and said, "I can see who you voted for..." I didn't find it funny 1 bit. Called to complain and got nada.

Everyday I fittle w/the notion to call and have it turned off. Better to read and get news from online. Ya know, now that I'm chatting about it, we can see clips over at C-Span.org/. Huh.. maybe it's time we call and have it turned off because THERE IS NOTHING ON EVEN WITH ALL THOSE CHANNELS.

15. I counted five of those religious channels and they
all seem to cater to one type of xtian religion, mostly begging for money.

16. Is it still possible to get just a plain satellite dish? In the old days
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 01:11 AM by coffeenap
you got a giant phone-book size guide to every channel available in our hemisphere. Now that would be worth it. Alot of work to get what you want, but there were no limits.

17. I remember those. Every sport's bar in the country
jumped to get one. They were huge too. I wonder if you could still get one? I have the ground space to put it on.

Must go google.
