I can't believe that people are still so uneducated about birth control!

I talked to my friend today. Keep in mind that this is an intelligent, well educated gal. She called in a panic this morning because she had no idea where to go because she thought that she could be pregnant because of an "accident". She had no idea what Planned Parenthood or even that the Morning After Pill existed. It was one of those situations where the girl thinks "I can't get pregnant if...". Anyway, she found PP got the M.O.P, and now hopefully everything will be fine.

There needs to be education about Birth Control. I don't know why the same people who are anti abortion are against the very thing and education that could help stop un-wanted pregnancies before they happen. I was taught about my body and sex/birth control. I did not run out and try it immediately. I was more responsible because I was educated about the risks. To assume that you cannot get pregnant because your boyfriend just smoked a joint is dangerous and just plain stupid.

The fundies and fristians are truly ruining everything in this country. I would be suprised if anyone can even get birth control in five years.

This is not some naive little girl.

I am proud to support organizations like Emily's List and Planned Parenthood. I will fight for my right to control my own body until I am the last one standing. So many women my age don't know what is happening or just don't care. I find that sad.

I am just disapointed that there is such LITTLE education out there. The Democrats are doing NOTHING to support women's rights.

Anybody who's having sex should know everything there is to know about "protection," whether they're in a monogamous relationship or not. NOT knowing is like driving a semi truck after learning how to turn the key in the ignition, push down the gas pedal, and roll down the window; you're missing vital information.

I used to shake my head and wonder how, even in the 21st century, people in some countries could be so ignorant about contraception and STDs. They know sex is fun, but they wan't people to believe that having sex for fun is evil. They want people to believe that having sex for procreation is the only valid reason to have sex. Just look at their arguments against gays..."Gays cannot procreate. They can only use each others bodies for sexual pleasure!". They preach against birth control for the very same reason...that it frees women to enjoy sex with less fear of becoming pregnant.

They want to destroy the fun factor only for OTHER people... ain't no way they're willing to lose out on that fun for themselves. Either that or because they AREN'T having fun with it themselves because they can't get any or have too much psychological baggage to be able to enjoy it, they don't want anyone else to be able to enjoy it... it's either "You can't have fun, but I can" or "You can't have fun because I can't".

10. In 1975 the boy's gym teacher taught us REAL sex ed in the public schools.

In our gender-mixed class in high school, he played for keeps. Made us take tests that included at least 5-6 types of birth control (what they were, how they worked, and their failure rate). He also made us label the male and female reproductive systems in detail such as ca. 4 parts of a sperm.

And speaking of failure rate, our teacher didn't hesitate to fail people who couldn't pass this course. He told us that this was probably the most important course we would ever take and he didn't want any of us to get a venereal disease or get pregnant by accident.

I am forever grateful to him. However, I also feel sadness knowing that my experience was more of an aberation than a universal education that all young people are entitled to. Kids today have access to more information than in my time (i.e., Our Bodies Our Selves) but they know less about birth control.

11. In my senior year of high school,

we had speakers come into the classroom and spoke about rape and birth control. I remember taking home a permission slip before the birth control lesson. When I handed it to my older sister, she asked what it was. When I told her what it was for, she had no trouble giving her permission. Her attitude at the time was that Planned Parenthood could teach me more about birth control that she could.

Many fundies believe the morning after pill is a form of abortion too. Since they say that life begins right at soon as the egg is fertilized, anything after that is the same, be it the pill or an abortion.

Its so stupid, you laugh until you start crying after truly realizing how utterly stupid it is.
