Start paying attention to this in your daily interactions with people: We all "misspeak" from time to time, but it's almost universally the case that we immediately self-correct. That's because we actually must be processing what we are saying. Start listening for it.

Bush never self-corrects. He just plunges on, as if what comes out of his mouth isn't processed by his brain. It's creepy because it says that he's just "not there" at some level. Words come out the mouth but the brain isn't engaged.
