Christina Aguilera to preach sexual abstinence to teens
Hmm I wonder if righties are going to tell Aguilera to "sit down and sing."

Link: http://archives.moneyplans.net/frontend204-verify-8095.html

Snip: <Pop princess Christina Aguilera has been chosen to host a new MTV documentary about sexual abstinence.

The new programme will give teenagers a deeper knowledge about political issues and US laws, as well as essential information about sex.

Her documentary, Sex, Votes and Higher Power, which airs next week, will give an opportunity to the 'Dirrty' star the chance to speak to youngsters who have joined the Silver Ring Thing drive and promised to remain virgins until they wed. >

1. Doesn't she run around dressed as provocatively as possible?
So the message is: dress like prostitute, but practice abstinence.

3. Kind of like Madonna
She got married and found religion, but she sowed her wild oats first. Funny, it's always some adult who had a wild time telling kids they should behave. At least they got to have their fun already.

5. Rather reminds me of a teen Drew Barrymore, standing with
Nancy Reagan, talking about abstaining from drug and alcohol use...

and later revealing that at the time she had her own huge addiction problem.

7. A silver ring vs teen hormones?
Teen hormones trump silver rings and promisses every time. If guilt and social stigma didn't prevent people from being gay, it sure as hell isn't going to prevent sex among teenagers.

Frankly, the idea of "losing" virginity is a crock. You don't lose virginity, you gain your sexuality.

IMHO I agree with Chef of South Park:

Chef: "The right time to start having sex is 17."
Sheila: "So you mean 17 as long as you're in love?"
Chef: "Nope, just 17."
Gerald: "But what if you're not ready at 17?"
Chef: "17, you're ready."

8. There was also
a report on either ABC or CBS or CNN (one of those) and they were talking about how 80% of the people who do the pledge end up breaking it in a year or two. And y'all are right about Aguilera. She has some pretty good music and I like her alright but her talking to me about sex is like Britney Spears talking to me about sex. Now if it was Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson for example that I could believe. But Christina Aguilera? Oh and Aguilera isn't married but she's engaged to someone who is a producer she has worked with or something like that.

15. It was CBS 60 Minutes

The segment was called "Taking the Pledge" and the figure you want is 88% of those who pledge to be abstinent - break the pledge. The dangerous thing about "Silver Ring Thing" is that such programs are federally mandate to NOT talk about condoms in a positive way. They can only mention the failure rate, and even at that - they exaggerate it.

Based on a latest study from the National Institutes of Health, Condoms used correct have a 97% pregnancy prevention rate, while used incorrectly that rate slips to 86% -- (this is also consistent with their best estimate on HIV prevention which is 85%) -- but what they teach in the "Silver Ring Thing" is that Condoms FAIL 14% of the time (the inverse of 86%) . This figures scares kids from using condoms, so when they finally break their pledge (which usually lasts about 18 months) and begin having sex - they don't use condoms and are a much higher risk for pregnancy as well as STD transmission.

I've done an blog article on this called "Missed Education".

11. If our young girls don't stay virgins then how do Muslim Martyrs get
rewarded with twenty virgins? The Virgins must come from somewhere and what better than have them be of your enemy. We know that So young women, remain chaste for the Martyrs.

14. In a warrior society, virginity is a high-value commodity.
When you are far away killing people, men like to know that their property isn't being used by others. An effective way to maintain social control of the cattle (read "women") is to attach a stigma to sexual freedom.

An added bonus to putting a cultural taboo on sex is that it removes barganing power from women.

13. 60 Minutes QT Clip on "Silver Ring Thing"

Learn more about this abstinence program "Silver Ring Thing" Basically the government gave this guy billions of $$$ to fund this project, all he has to do is get younger people interested in abstinence and PROMISE not to promote Condom use!!! The 60 minutes guy asked him... "If your daughter was to tell you that she didnt give and damn and she was going to Fuck anyway, you would tell her not use a condom?" The guy said... He would TELL her NOT to USE a Fucking condom.. Crazy

20. I doubt she's preaching abstinence
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 12:11 PM by GRLMGC
She's probably just going to discuss sexual issues with a variety of people. Like it or not, those virgins do exist and there's no harm in talking to them. It's MTV, it has had various programs dealing with sexual issues that are important to discuss (one of the few good things MTV has done). This is just one part of sexual culture in the US
