Hubby in Dallas airport surrounded by Juarez-bound teenagers in Tshirts...
bearing the slogan, "Bringing Jesus to Mexico."

Kids, He has been a big part of the lives of the good people of Mexico for a very long time. How presumptuous -- or simply ignorant.

1. Amen
Hopefully, they'll learn some things about God's will...or maybe one of them will take off into the mountains of Chiapas to fight with the Zapatistas.

2. Not THAT Jesus--
the REAL, blue-eyed, blonde-haired, ASS-kickin' AMERICAN Jesus. Not that commie homo "love your enemy" "rich people are bad" sufferin' fake pussy Messican Jesus. Sheesh. Some people don't know nothin' about the dang Bible.

16. great post. made me laugh because its soooo true.
The adults who planned that trip and ordered those ignorant t-shirts are the ones who are to blame, because they know full well what they are doing. They are brining fundy American's vision of Jesus to Mexico, only they don't have the balls to simply say it. If I was some poor Mexican I sure as hell wouldn't want those ignorant American kids with their ignorant t-shirts coming anywhere near me.

18. Yep, this was a good morning laugh.
They're bringing Jesus, not that Marist Papist stuff the Mexicans believe.

Reminds me of a time when I was riding the T in Boston and a pair of very young Mormon missionaries tried to strike up a conversation with a pretty young woman with vaguely Latina looks. She did a "don't understand" shrug and one of the boys decided to whip out his secret weapon, a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish. Laughter erupted because the rest of us knew that the neighborhoods on this route were heavily Portuguese. After someone explained this to the boys, they looked like they wanted to crawl under the seat.

4. Oh, "great".
Isn't Mexico about 90+% Christian? It's all about anti-Catholic bigotry.

5. Methinks they need to kidnap Jesus from Mexico and bring him

back here.
I guarantee the Hispanic population is much better acquainted with the Jesus we know and love than the one that they blaspheme here.

19. You're right, Horse with no Name --
I deplore the "Religious" Right takeover of the Church in this country, and all the other national institutions the extreme Right has within its grasp.

what I see in airports.
I travel constantly for business and I see these HUGE groups of kids and parents going to all manner of far-flung places for Baby Jesus.
These appear to be rural kids as well as urban.
Who is paying for this shit?
You and me, that's who.

These appear to be mostly fundies going to mostly Catholic locales.

11. yep.
They're called missions and Christian college kids love 'em. What they do exactly is a little vague. Mostly preach fundamentalist Xianity, Bibles in hand. They get "converts" too.

10. I should add
These are by and large slack-jawed, albeit exceedingly cheery, kids in WalMart clothes and shoes accompanied by parents who are seemingly conversationally challenged.

12. Seems like Mexico could do a tit for tat here and
refuse to let them enter. I wonder how they would feel when the shoe is on the other foot? Would they swim across the Rio Grande and become *wetbacks* for Jesus?

(Mods: Remove the post if you don't like the W word but I am using it in a historical context.)
