just because a nation condones and justifies actions cannot and should not alter whether the action is right or wrong. Because all nations will justify what seems in their own best interests, won't they?
During WWII Germans, before learning the depths of depravity that their government had stooped to, were convinced that Hitler's government was doing what was best for them. They even went as far as participating in the naming of names, identifying Jews and other "traitors" for rounding up by the Gestapo/SS or whoever. But the fact is the actions of the Nazis were wrong, morally depraved.
Likewise the people who tortured McCain and other POWs were wrong and morally corrupt - regardless of whether their countrymen supported the actions or not.
By these standards - universally accepted principles of right and wrong action - the US has behaved in a wrong, morally bankrupt manner in its treatment of detainees.
Acknowledging that you state the truth...sadly, sadly so........
