1. I believe many Americans are outraged by..
John McCain's torture but stand behind the torture of the Afghani villager. Some Americans think torturing and causing the death of an Afghani or Iraqi will help stop terrorism and they will be safe.

2. I trust that this is true....but
just because a nation condones and justifies actions cannot and should not alter whether the action is right or wrong.
Because all nations will justify what seems in their own best interests, won't they?

During WWII Germans, before learning the depths of depravity that their government had stooped to, were convinced that Hitler's government was doing what was best for them. They even went as far as participating in the naming of names, identifying Jews and other "traitors" for rounding up by the Gestapo/SS or whoever. But the fact is the actions of the Nazis were wrong, morally depraved.

Likewise the people who tortured McCain and other POWs were wrong and morally corrupt - regardless of whether their countrymen supported the actions or not.

By these standards - universally accepted principles of right and wrong action - the US has behaved in a wrong, morally bankrupt manner in its treatment of detainees.

Acknowledging that you state the truth...sadly, sadly so........

3. Just imagine if all people of the world stood up against...
governments who torture and detain and in unison declared it would not be tolerated. OOPS, isn't that what Bush says he is doing.

4. I think the people of the world are doing that...
but too many of the world's people don't have much power over their governments. Like us, for example.
