Culture of Life Bush Admin: SEND PREGNANT RECRUITS TO IRAQ:
Culture of Life Bush Admin: SEND PREGNANT RECRUITS TO IRAQ:

US lowers standards in army numbers crisis

Jamie Wilson in Washington
Saturday June 4, 2005
The Guardian

The US military has stopped battalion commanders from dismissing new recruits for ***** drug abuse, alcohol, poor fitness and pregnancy****************************** in an attempt to halt the rising attrition rate in an army under growing strain as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
An internal memo sent to senior commanders said the growing dropout rate was "a matter of great concern" in an army at war. It told officers: "We need your concerted effort to reverse the negative trend. By reducing attrition 1%, we can save up to 3,000 initial-term soldiers. That's 3,000 more soldiers in our formations."

23. Nah
Most of those fetusus belong to poor or brown people, and the fundies have shown over and over they don't care about those types: Only middle-class white balls of cells matter to them!

4. They'll start counting pregnant recruits as TWO new soldiers.
And it should increase the incidents of friendly fire injuries and deaths to be sending alcoholics and drug addicts into combat.

counted as part of the army, since they were born into it?

8. NO WHERE does it say sending pregnant recruits TO IRAQ
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 04:57 PM by Qanisqineq
It says they will accept pregnant RECRUITS. That does not in any way mean that they are sending pregnant women to Iraq. Recruits go through basic training and AIT, they don't sign up and the next day get on a plane to Baghdad. The pregnant recruits couldn't go through basic training!!!

Sure, it means that they will probably send the women to basic training and then to Iraq AFTER the baby is born, but let's not blow this out of proportion. My neighbor got out of going to Iraq because she is pregnant. Jeez.

15. Question from me
I've never been pregnant but is that healthy for a baby in a mother's womb to go through that type of training??

17. good question!
I've never been pregnant either but I know women that have been very athletic during their early to mid pregnancy. I don't know. It doesn't sound very comfortable to me. Does your tummy bounce around at all??

22. I've been pregnant four times
In my opinion, you can be as physically active as you were before becoming pregnant, at least until the last few months--from the 7th month on, your body starts sending you signals to slow down. But you can't embark on a new regimen of training very easily--I'd think that would endanger the pregnancy.

20. Great! Institute the draft...
Get all the freepers to go to Iraq, whether they like it or not, it makes sense that these republicans in name should be fully supporting a war that they support.

Brittany Spears comes to mind, she is just as happy about it and is pregnant correct? It sure shouldn't be those who do not support the war.

25. Basic training can be very harsh in the psychological sense.
Many recruits experience extreme stress in basic training. Stress releases chemicals, and those chemicals travel through a woman's system and right into the developing fetus. No woman knows until she goes through that regimen exactly how it will affect her mentally and emotionally.

For that reason alone, it's a piss-poor idea. I'm against it.

Referring to the above poster's brilliant (in a Repub sort of way) idea of using prisoners, I can envision doors swinging open for nonviolent offenders with the idea of exchanging time in Iraq with equal or double time off your sentence. Of course, bush can't advocate the release of too many prisoners because that will *cough* reduce the income for the prisons.
