So let's stop giving them any publicity and let them fade away...
Fox, CNN on ropes?

From: Zepps_News@yahoogroups.com

There is more talk on a couple of broadcasting boards that Fox and
CNN are practically falling apart. Nielsen ratings are *not* public
(you'd never know it from Usenet), but word leaks out.

I've heard now from two places, that the Fox News Channel is down to
425,000 18 - 54 viewers a week, which is lower than a typical number
two broadcaster gets in a top twenty urban market. CNN is supposed
to be half that, and MSNBC is closing in on 100,000 viewers. To
put this in perspective, CBS News gets 8.5 million viewers a night,
and Star Trek Enterprise was cancelled when it hit 3.5 Million
viewers an episode.

These are dreadful numbers. They mean these channels are
essentially out of the news business. They can't finance new shows
or even very many marketing surveys, and must give away advertising
to fill their time.

These awful numbers also mean that the Republican Noise Machine
can't create news diversions as easily as they did a few years ago,
especially when Air America has between six and ten million
listeners, and liberal internet blogs have about the same monthly
readership that Daily Newspapers do today. This is probably why the
Downing Street Memo is still alive, and why Bush's popularity
numbers are still plummeting.

1. You should change the subject of your thread ....
It should reflect the content better (you dont have to, just a suggestion) ...

This story, if true, SLAMS the notion that 'Right Wing is Right' ...

It ISNT right: Its WRONG ....

2. Soooo happy!
"These are dreadful numbers..."

These are fucking great numbers! In fact I'm going on a bender to celebrate. Fuck FOX and fuck CNN'T with a red hot poker.

When they collapse utterly maybe they'll be sold off for scrap to an energetic innovative business or entrepreneur who thinks it might be fun to hire REAL JOURNALISTS to do some real journalism again.

18. Very happy about that
I don't watch the "news" either. If I do it's just the local 12noon news.

5. I distinctly remember Randi Rhodes talking about this.
She was talking about how FOX News bills itself as this media behemoth and who in actuality draws a small part of the viewing audience. And this was at their zenith. I agree with your premise wholeheartedly.

6. Karl Rove's solution: The epidemic....
"There's too many of them libruls err...conservatives err americanas to suicide them all, so let's do the next best thing like richie nixon did. Let's call upon our army fo ameruka!"

Karl Rove gets on cell phone with Ralph Reed, says the time to deploy is now. Bring on the freepers.

10,000 plus freepers march in protest hacking websites every which way from sunday (including Conyers website), and suddenly make a big mess about Soddom.

Meanwhile, back in the real world.....

*Radio begins to rake in millions of dollars and the impeachment whistle begins to sound, CNN, MSNBC, and FOx News go bankrupt*

The revolution has begun....

7. Bill O'Reilly gets 2 million viewers-per-night.
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 07:49 PM by Eric J in MN
While that is fewer than the 3 million viewers-per-night got in November, 2 million viewers is a lot.

You write that "CBS News gets 8.5 million viewers a night" but those viewers are hearing facts, not conservative rants or liberal rants.

On "The O'Reilly Factor" the audience hears conservative rants about how the ACLU is terrible.

Are there liberal rants anywhere on tv? If so, where?

15. I still say we don't have to play their game to win.
I love the message in Mike Malloy's program, but after about 3 minutes of being screamed at, I have to turn it off.

I wouldn't exactly look at CBS as having "facts" in their news anyway, because I'm looking as much at what they aren't saying as what they are saying.

However, this whole O'Reilly thing makes them look ridiculous especially whenever we can show that he has his head up his rear and doesn't know what he's talking about.

I agree we need more liberal voice out there speaking the truth to power, but I don't want a bunch of liberal O'Reilly's out there. That would just be so wrong. I know sometimes we feel like beating people over the head with the truth, but that isn't in line with who we are.

I like thinking of us as dandelions. Useful, but loathed. Always there no matter how hard people try to get rid of us. Still, whenever anyone sees a dandelion after a long cold winter, they still get that little bit of hope. If the dandelions have survived, then spring is surely on the way.

20. Yeah, the ones I've heard.
Love Al Franken in general. Saw him on a panel with Gore Vidal a while back and he was simply hilarious being restrained, you know, not taking the cheap shots, but just saying enough that the audience went there anyway. In Lies and the Lying Liars... he had these obnoxious bits that were emmulating the right and I didn't like those much. Made me sick to my stomach.

I haven't heard Ed much, but what I've heard I like.

19. Not that I've seen
I've also asked some rightwingers and always get Jerry Springer or Al Franken. :eyes: I always ask them to name one person on Fox or any other MSM show who is democratic and has his OWN show. I've yet to receive an answer.

11. They are terrible. I'm a news junkie and I can't stomach them because
they are so terrible - stupid, clueless, vacuous stories, no depth, no true analysis, moral equivalency between the criminals of Watergate and the reporters, editors and whistle blowers - the same thing they did to John Kerry during the Swift Liars fiasco when facts were established but they kept letting people just spew lies.

If they have lost me then they really are in trouble.

14. Boycott!
It works.

Absolutely do not pay for any form of mainstream media, especially tv.

(All I pay is $7.99 per month for internet service so I can find the truth.)
