Isn't that what we need to hear from some real conservatives? Don't we need some Republicans to stand up and denounce what is going on? Has every single one of them drank the Bush kool-aid? Are they ready to go down with the ship? And the ship will go down. The writing is on the wall. No nation can continue on the path that we are on and survive. If the huge debt doesn't topple us, then world opinion will get us. We are in one helluva mess, in my opinion.

I have no idea how many, but my son works for Delta, and he's a true Dem. He's been arguing with all the Pubs about how bad Shrub was and their only response was that Shrub was against abortion and would keep those damn gays away from them.

Yesterday, he told me about 3 staunch Pubs who changed their minds! They had to take a 25% pay cut, had their copayment on their health ins increased, had their # of sick days and vacation days reduced, and their 401K program was adjusted (adversly of course.). Well, NOW, they see the light! Shrub's policies did do this to them!!!!

I've said it all along, people will not recognize there's a problem until it affects them personally! At least these 3 guys proved me right.

5. I will tell you the reason

They side with their side no matter what so they won't look bad and lose elections. Yeah, they know bush sucks but if they attack him too they lose votes next election.

How many dems were against clinton out in the open during his time? The right was asking the same questions 'he lied under oath, and the dems don't care', 'okie city was an inside job', 'waco was a gov sponsored killing of kids over gun ownership' and the list goes on.

They did not expect too many dems to cross over and attack clinton, and I don't expect too many to cross over and want bush out. They do know he sucks - read fr at a fine tuned level and you will see there are quite a few people disgusted with bush over some issues - but they still think he would be better then a dem on a broader scale.

Here on DU we were not supposed to be attacking the candidate of choice after the primaries - we figured the rw would be doing enough of that. The right sees it the same way now - bush is their man, and while he may be bad in some ways he is better then the alternative.

Both sides are afraid to openly attack and hold accountable their own people in a public way. Like terrorism and bush fear rules both parties when it comes to keeping them on the ball. So in the end, the politicians win, and we lose.

To me, Republicanism is for fiscal responsibility, a strong middle class (which drives spending and strengthens the economy), a strong military used sparingly, and personal responsibility rather than an all encompassing safety net.

With this administration we have uncontrolled spending, a tax policy that sucks the middle class dry while rewarding the rich, an overextended military used for false pretenses, and a complete failure to accept personal responsibility for anything whatsoever.

I pray that the 2004 election was stolen, because I'd hate to think 50% of us would vote for these people.

9. My mother and my employer, ages 79 and 78 respectively

were both life long republicans until this idiot came along. Now they're both as disgusted with * as I am. My employer even went so far as to state that she couldn't vote in this Tuesday's primary (governor) because she's a registered Republican. "If they think I'm about to vote for any of those clowns, they've got another think coming!" She's now completely against the Republicans, even on the state level. :woohoo:

11. i heard from my neighbor who just flew in from Houston..he is a ....

lifer republican who lives in Houston but owns a mountian cabin in NY and he just said that same thing to me yesterday and is begging us "democrats to win this next election cycle and fix the mess bush has made"...he also said, "i will be voting Democratic this time."

THAT, unfortunately, is the suffix placed on 99% of the republican "Bush sucks" statements. They may think Bush sucks, and even most repuke politicians, but they're frequently able to find a reason to support the GOP front anyway on the grounds that the Dems are worse. A lot of the republican voters are disaffected cynics who've believed the worst of central government for decades -- and can't make the connection that their own dim vision has become a self-fulfilling prophecy!

It will not be enough to demonstrate to them how leaky their own boat is if they think the alternative has already sunk.

Shortly before the general elections, I had a conversation with a co-worker who I knew to be a conservative Republican. He initiated the conversation as I guess he had come to quite a few realizations about the shrub.

He proceeded to tell me exactly what was wrong with *'s economic policies, the war, healthcare policies, etc. (There were more and he nailed it all). I was standing there with my jaw on the floor unable to speak.

Then he concluded with "but I have to vote for him because he is a Christian". Any furthur questioning was answered with that "logic".

they still feel that the Dems suck even more, unfortunately. They're still in denial about how dangerous Bush is to their own country.
