What have YOU done to promote the Progressive cause this week?
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:23 PM by ih8thegop
It's one thing to complain about how Republicans are trying to destroy our country. It's another thing to do something about it.

This week, I was one of the tens of thousands who signed the Downing Street letter.

I am also starting to work on my first letter to the editor since the election.

Have you done anything this past week? If so, please share. If not, here is your reminder.

I also posted numerous threads on the Yahoo messageboards (flamewars delight;)) links to conyers letter and to downingstreetmemo.com

I showed my mother DU and had her visit the downingstreetmemo website.

On a personal level, I started reading a Paul Krugman book.

address book, I have told most everyone I know about the Downing Street memo, including anyone that comes up to my democrat table, which I do once a week infront of my local college campus, I called Senators every day last week about impeaching the asshole, you can too the phone number to the capital hill switch board is #202 224 3121, I am raising money to send our college democrats to the national college democrats convention in Washington next month, I am canvasing door to door for our local democrats on Monday, I will be volunteering all day to hold up a sign for some of the local dems on election day Tuesday, I am trying to organize Millions Against the Media Marches in NY, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, SF, and Miami:

and

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3742303

My friend Tamyrlin79 and I and several other DUers are drafting a Democratic Contract with America to send to all democrats running for congress in 2006, please add to the list or leave your comments if you can think of anything cool:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3757346

I am also writing a pretty cool screenplay that is kind of like Dune meets the Princess Bride meets the Legend of Ursea with Pirates, a love story, and all the oil metaphors and bad religion that you can shake a stick at. But I don't get to work on it as often as I would like even though I do have about 100 pages written of what should be about 150.

I'm suppose to write a letter to the editor of our college paper for Monday but I'm worried I won't have time.

Did I mention that I am a full time mother of 2 toddlers? My sons are awesome and everything I do is for them. I have time to help I try to dedicate as much time as possible to getting the word out and getting these fasicists put in jail.

I could use some help, still looking for folks on the ground to help get permits for the Millions Against the Media March. We have about 8 monthes to plan, the date is Wed. Feb. 1, 2006, the 10th anniversary of the telecommunications act.

Please consider it if you live in any of ther areas above, PM me.

Thanks.

27. Well, if you would like to organize one in your area, go for it
you need to get a permit for a protest, if you get the permit, then really the only other thing to do is print up a flyer and post it up around you town.

We're going to be getting in touch with AAR, the blogs, etc, for publicity.

I put in articles and news that gets overlooked in the mainstream media. The Downing Street Memo and the Conyers website address will be in the issue that goes out Monday.

It's good to be here. Although I've been lurking around for about a year, total. I'm not a Dem, sadly, but a centerist. I hate to ally myself with any particular political party; I just don't believe in them. Regardless, thank you for the welcome, and I hope to be around here more often. I dislike making echo posts, which is kinda probably why my count is so low. Either way, thank you again, and I'll be sure to read through the links.

EDIT: Err... Guess I replied to the wrong post... Still not entirely used to this. First REAL forum I've bothered with.

12. Me
I determined my allocations for my "Working Assets" contributions:

20% to the Human Rights Campaign
20% to the American Library Association
20% to the National Coalition Against Censorship
20% to Americans United for Separation of Church and State
20% to Planned Parenthood

They donate a percentage of my monthly phone bill to my designated recipients, plus I always "round up" my bill to an even dollar amount, so that extra amount goes to the recipients as well.

14. Well, not so busy this week...
Today I attended a Media Fair in St Paul Minnesota and got to mention DemocraticUnderground, TruthOut and Reporters Without Borders in my question about CNN's co-founder's positon on media's responsibility to lie for the government.

There was a panel of 4 up front, one conservative, and he was saying that there wasn't any "proof" that reporters had been targeted by the US and I supplied him (off the top of my head) with the main article that convinced me - TruthOut investigative report / Two Lies and a Murder - about the 2 killed in Baghdad near the start of the war.

Did a kickback to Hillary & Friends because they send me these form letters, but no one has answered me as to why the Count Every Vote Act is sitting in committee. Friday, June 03, 2005 1:15 PM

Friday, June 03, 2005 1:07 PM Sent a "Thank You for Speaking Truth to Power!" email to the Bangor Daily News for their June 02, 2005 article "Administration's Offenses Impeachable" with a clarification:

However, there is one flaw in this article that must be ammended... "What's curious is why anyone like me should have to even point this out. Don't our senators and congressmen feel betrayed? Are they content to continue the murdering rather than do what truth demands?"

I suggest that you ammend your article to state that at least 89 Members of Congress are dealing with this issues led by John Conyers.

House Rep John Conyers has already 87,000 citizen signatures on a letter demanding accountability for these actions described in the Downing Street Memo and many, many Democrats and even some Republicans are right in step with the quest for the truth and impeachment to those who have locked step with the lies.

Letter to Pres Bush Concerning "Downing Street Memo"

<snip>
As a result of these concerns, we would ask that you respond to the following questions:
1) Do you or anyone in your administration dispute the accuracy of the leaked document?
2) Were arrangements being made, including the recruitment of allies, before you sought Congressional authorization to go to war? Did you or anyone in your Administration obtain Britain's commitment to invade prior to this time?
3) Was there an effort to create an ultimatum about weapons inspectors in order to help with the justification for the war as the minutes indicate?
4) At what point in time did you and Prime Minister Blair first agree it was necessary to invade Iraq?
5) Was there a coordinated effort with the U.S. intelligence community and/or British officials to "fix" the intelligence and facts around the policy as the leaked document states?

These are the same questions 89 Members of Congress, led by Rep. John Conyers, Jr., submitted to you on May 5, 2005. As citizens and taxpayers, we believe it is imperative that our people be able to trust our government and our commander in chief when you make representations and statements regarding our nation engaging in war. As a result, we would ask that you publicly respond to these questions as promptly as possible.

Senator Kerry has declared his support in this search for the truth about why we got in this war in the first place since the reasons presented keep changing as more of the facts come to light. However, Robert's Rules of Order and the political climate of a country that believes everyone is innocent until proven guilty requires that we examine the evidence and then call for impeachment based on the evidence.

I am certain Ted Kennedy and Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid are on board with this process. I've even read an article by a Republican that called for impeachment, based on these lies. Of course this is all a surprise to the main stream media, but thank you for standing up and speaking truth to power.

Saturday, May 28, 2005 3:16 PM Signed Conyers letter, changed my sig line.

Saturday, May 28, 2005 12:23 PM Emailed condolence to MN Senator Becky Lourey whose son Matthew was shot down in Iraq.

Thursday, May 26, 2005 4:44 PM Emailed Ken Blackwell at his new digs
Subject: Don't run for public office ever again.

Mr. Blackwell,

You do not deserve to be elected dog catcher, much less govenor.

RE: Remarks by Harry Reid

Dear Senator,

WE the PEOPLE have read Reid's message and WE agree. GET TO WORK! Do the job you were elected to do and ignore the pResident and power mongers that have been ignoring America's best interests or you won't be invited back in 2006.

Sincerely,

Mamie, MN

P.S. If you're a power monger, knock it off. You're destroying America.

Thursday, May 26, 2005 1:29 AM Email to letters@washpost.com
Subject: CNN's Dishonesty Is Disgusting!

I am outraged at Reese Schonfeld, Co-founder of CNN, who said on National TV that the roles of the media and the Pentagon in time of war is to lie. How original for a Democratic Nation to emulate a senseless dictatorship.

The Washington Post, more than many mainstream media outlets has been reporting real news. I'm sure you understand how CNN slaps the Fourth Estate in the face by advocating lying for the government.

Press responsiblity in wartime is to not reveal sensitive information about troop movements and such. If our government would have listened to the people when we SCREAMED not to appoint Gonzales because of the Torture Memo and what it did to our reputation as a nation, we might have been able to repair some of the damage.

Those who seek to continue murder and torture in the name of WE the PEOPLE, had better start packing their bags for 2006 and 2008 right now.

In this country we respect Truth and know our responsibility to freedom comes with a price. It isn't just the soldiers who have laid down their life blood for Democracy in Iraq. Since the war began over 40 reporters have died in the line of duty in Iraq and more than a dozen media assistants were killed as well. Is THIS is the thanks THEY get for THEIR sacrifice? Shame on CNN and their lack of humanity, much less their unpatriotic attitude.

Lying for the government is not a national VALUE. A puppet press is useless to the causes of Freedom and Justice. Real journalists know what the Nieman Reports are.

Newsweek reported old news. Three year old news. What made it such a travesty of justice was that it had been surpressed that long. Newsweek doesn't need to retract 17 deaths, their blood is on the hands of the US Government who allowed the desecration.

The American People have a right to know what is being done in OUR NAME, here and around the world. It is OUR JOB to hold our leaders accountable and the only way we can do that is if the press has our back.

Do you?
