This article was in today's Arizona Republic. It is written by Tom Liddy..son of G.Gordon Liddy. I hadn't read accusations against V. Plame before so I was shocked at his statements. 'Free' press doesn't mean 'objective'
This revelation has been a long time coming. For Watergate aficionados, learning the identity of Deep Throat is just plain fun. So, what should we take away from all this?
Nobody likes a tattletale? Well, it appears some people do.

Rather than take the evidence of criminal wrongdoing to a grand jury and let American citizens determine whether to issue an indictment, Felt broke the law and leaked information from an ongoing criminal investigation to his favored media outlet. But, his defenders will quickly add, he broke the law to expose others who broke the law. So, two wrongs make a right, right?

In 2004, we had a heated presidential election, the atmosphere of which was reminiscent of 1972. Valerie Plame was an Al Gore supporter from 2000 who made the maximum political contribution to Gore permitted by law, but failed to disclose her employer as required by law.
Plame was a member of a rogue anti-Bush faction inside the CIA. She abused her position by arranging to have her equally anti-Bush husband appointed to travel to Africa and determine whether agents of Saddam Hussein ever inquired about acquiring "yellow cake" from which they could conduct nuclear bomb research. Plame's husband came back and reported, "no" in a scathing anti-Bush op-ed in the New York Times.
Somebody, most likely in the Bush White House, thought the American people should know about Plame's agenda and her abuse of her position in the CIA to interfere with the election. That person leaked the story to the press. In some circumstances, it is illegal to identify a CIA operative. But two wrongs make a right, right?

But know that "free" does not mean "objective." It is safe to assume that most reporters and "confidential sources" have opinions or agendas that color their actions, but that does not mean the information that finds its way to your driveway in the morning paper is not important.
