Will republicans boycott Star Wars? Hope this isn't a dupe.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 09:04 AM by enid602
I live in red Phoenix, and went to see Star Wars last night. Different showings were being staggered at 1/2 hour intervals at a popular Biltmore-area cineplex, and we got there early to avoid sell-outs. I was surprised when there were just a handful of us in the theater. Curious, I googled 'star wars republican boycott' this AM, and was surprised to see the following results (just on the first page):

1. Republicans can't boycott, march, or protest with any meaningful
amount of organization. My guess is no.

2. Isn't this about three weeks too late?
It's already made a gazzillion dollars. A think a few crazy Freeper-types made some rumblings about boycotting. But everyone wants to see it so that failed.

3. critical
I think the freepers give credence to the theory that the movie is critical of the regime, just given the preponderance (on the web) of their reactions to the movie.

5. Eh, I read a thread there and it seemed that they all saw it
Some might have hated it, but they were able to talk about specific scenes. Face it, when a movie makes a billion dollars, everyone sees it.

4. Sell Your Mother, She's A Virgin....
I visited the web page, "patrickruffini.com" and was I floored!

The photoshop of Darthvader with all the advertizements is exactly what is wrong with the whole concept of the GOP. Linking yourself with evil for the sake of a buck hardly is hardly positive (yes the corporate board may be happy with the profits but really? Is there anything "not for sale"??).

6. patrickruffini.com
I just went to that website, and it seems that republicans not only make light of Star Wars comparisons, but seem to welcome them.

7. Any boycotts freepers attempt are meaningless...
number one, because far too many conservatives are hypocrites when it comes to Hollywood (slapping them in the face with one hand while beating off with the other) and even if they did boycott, the people who would actually do it are such a small percentage of the world population that any loss of revenue here would be made up in world-wide ticket/DVD sales!

9. repugs
Good point. And their criticisms and threats of boycott will just make everyone else more curious to see it.
