Kerry DSM speech NOT happening today according to his Washington Office.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 12:31 PM by mzmolly
I just spoke to Kerry's Washington office and they said that Kerry will be bringing up the issue of the DSM but not today.

Edited to add: Apparently the Senate/Congress is not in session today? Thanks to ARNHEIM for this information.

I was assured that he will definitely be taking up the issue on the Senate Floor as soon as possible.

Sorry to bear bad news. I guess we'll have to be patient.

Please recommend so everyone sees this.

Thanks.

3. No, they wouldn't give specifics. Just said he'll likely return tomorrow.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 11:58 AM by mzmolly
They also said they don't have the Senate schedule but that he will be speaking on the matter as soon as possible.

I wonder if he wanted to do some more prep work? I dunno. Perhaps he's gathering internal support?

*LOL* Can you imagine the kind of blockbuster this could become? After all, there are a LOT of former military and intelligence and diplomats gathering forces.

Ahhhh,...it's those kind of dreams that sustain me.

before acting. He's getting his ducks in a row, imo.

I'm sure he's aware that the media has been presumptiously putting words in his mouth about impeachment, so he may feel a need for garnering more support in the Senate. Perhaps the media's presumptiousness will work in our favor & Kerry will feel goaded into making it a mission to impeach the SOB.

Who said that the Senate/Congress was not in session? According to senate.gov they're in debate about Brown today.

In other news, I was listening to Rush today, and he was pushing the "impeachment" meme, even though Kerry never used that word. He was crowing about having predicted all along that Kerry would do that.

We will have to see when we know he's in town, hopefully tomorrow. Gives him more time to write a kick ass speech if nothing else.

I turn it on... he says something outrageously distorted... I turn it off. A little while later, I buzz past that station again... he says something outrageously distorted again... I turn it off again.

Thank God for Ed Schultz. He ain't perfect, but it helps my head to have something even close to progressive radio to turn to every day.

Today, he was talking about Amnesty International, and how they were somehow connected to John Kerry and were therefore anti-American in the same way that Kerry was anti-Bush.

I found I can't listen to most Republicans for very long. I stopped to listen to Mitt Romney's speech on Cspan yesterday. He said he and the Republicans were following Bush's lead in education and fiscal responsibility. NCLB leaves children behind and I'd like to know what's so responsible about the biggest deficit in history. I snapped him off pretty quick as well.

36. And, what's preventing Kerry from calling a huge press conference???
If he's really steamed or concerned, maybe he should get the word out in a press conference today and on the Senate floor tomorrow. Nothing beats synergy in the major media like TWO DAYS OF NEWS CYCLE! Why can't Dems learn to play the media for heaven sakes!

Sadly, I think Kerry's motives are more about doing the bare minimum to keep folks like us reasonably happy without putting his neck out politically. Typical self-centered politican bullshit...and one of the reasons why he lost in 2004.

Perhaps it's just a question of semantics?

I see the schedule here as you note and indeed they are in session:

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/schedule.htm

However - Congress is closed today, and that was apparently the reason Kerry's rep gave for not addressing the issue today. Perhaps there is coordinated effort between Congress-Conyers/Senate-Kerry, on this matter?

Or, it might be that the senate schedule doesn't permit Kerry speaking on the DSM today?

I guess the bottom line is - Kerry openly stated he's going to speak about this, it's only a matter of days regardless. And, apparently TODAY will not be THE day.

The office speculates that it will be tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the info!

If he does not hit them with this after his statements, I will be completely convinced that he is a sell out.

I seriously doubt that a delay from Kerry implies he is getting his facts straight, etc. He has had plenty of time to get his facts straight. The memo came out a month ago. He made his statement days ago. Surely with his staff he has had all the time he needs to work out the details.

I'm not sure exactly what the delay means. But I sure as hell do not look at this as a good sign.

Please do not forget how Democratic politicians love to say they are going to stand up to these assholes (primarily to keep US happy) while turning around and doing the opposite when the time comes to go officially on record. We have all seen it over and over from the Dem leadership!

I sure as hell hope he isn't playing that game AGAIN!

He has a chance to be a hero here. I hope he does not waste it!

55. Kerry did work on the issue of voting irregularity.
But we want an all out revolt or were not happy at times?

As for what he did:

http://www.google.com.ar/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=RNWE,RNWE:2004-45,RNWE:en&q=count+every+vote+act+john+kerry

But Kerry didn't come out and say the *F* word.

And I fear that if Kerry doesn't use the *I* word tomorrow all of DU will run amok crying that they were let down. Pathetic.

Like it or not were a party that is marginalized right now, were not on equal footing. We are the minority party and it's all an uphill battle.

Watergate didn't break overnight, and this won't either.

We should really be thankful to Senator kerry for taking up this issue IMHO.

:hi:

57. Not to mention googling the name "Don McTigue" and "Ohio"
There is still a lawsuit pending. That it's not getting anywhere is more due I think to the fact that the process is probably controlled by Repubs.

58. Count Every Vote Is GREAT. However, It Does Nothing To UNDO Ohio.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 06:49 PM by DistressedAmerican
Maybe he'll work on some legislation to reduce the likelihood that Bush will lie his ass off to take us into the NEXT war. That would be the logical corollary to Count Every Vote.

I'll reserve my adulation until I see him take action. Not words, actions.

On edit: I do not want him to bring up impeachment at this point. We haqve no power to force it and it is premature at this point. I do want a passionalt speech and a media blitz. He promised action. I just want to see him take it.

59. I'll await your adulation.
But, I won't hold my breath. ;)

I don't think one can undo fraud. Especially when you can't count the dang votes. The proof is "POOF" gone.

Peace

60. And I LOOK FORWARD To Giving It! I Really Want Him To Do This!
If he actually follows through, I'll be a big fan.

I'm just a bit worried reading about this delay. I think that is justified at this stage.

61. I agree.

I think most of us will be pleased with what he does, "when" he does it.

53. My letter of encouragement to Kerry
Dear Senator Kerry,

Please, use your statement about the Downing Street Memo and the attention that the media is paying to the issue of you bringing it up to stand up to these cowardly bullies.

I watched Going Upriver with my 16 year old daughter and thought about what a good leader and healer you would be as our President. I hope you still have that 27 year old man in there to speak for us tomorrow. That's the man I voted for. Now, my daughter faces almost the identical dilemmas as my generation did 30 years ago -- only now, we're 30 years closer to crisis than we were then because this crowd in power has squandered our trust.

I worry so much about what her future (and my 14 year old son too!) will be.

You deserve to be our President because you probably won the election. We trusted you and worked hard for you and you could have done a little bit better, but you got cheated - voters were also cheated by the media. We were all too trusting. Never again.

Now, it's time for you to trust us (we who are awake and want this country back) to stand up for you when you stand courageously against Bush and his lying, crooked team of war criminals. When they say that they won the election or brought democracy to Iraq or that the Downing Street Minutes have been discredited, I think you should say "PROVE IT".

Good Luck!

68. Confirming this...
Kerry will speak, but no time has been set for this yet. Aside from scheduled committee meetings, the Senate is discussing judicial nominees and possibly Bolton this week.

I should get a head's up on when this will happen. I will post when I do.

71. See this VIDEO CLIP of Olbermann clarifying what Kerry said re the DSM
He demolishes the RW spin that Kerry is supposedly going to call for impeachment. It's great to see a corporate TV newsperson debunking RW spin like this, and he also is crystal-clear on what Kerry actually did say last Wednesday:

72. You would think
You would think the MSM would make a ton of ratings and money covering W's impeachment. Soon or a later someone in the MSM will be saying to him-or her-self, shit man we can make a fortune making this into the old fashioned SCOOP style reporting. And right now the connected dots are hiding right in plain sight.

Well, I can dream can't I ?
