Don't you hate it when you have to give up
a litter of cute kittens! We were hoping to keep the pretty soft grey one but they were all adopted on the town square. Everyone wanted them. Can't keep pets where we live so now we have to find a home for the heartbroken mom too. I don't think I want to go through this again. I was more upset than my kid over it. Pets are a luxury these days. I miss my little kittens...why is the screen all fuzzy?

1. No, I hate it when we get obvious "Dump-ees" hanging around...
And we can't find anyone intersted in adopting an adult cat...

These aren't Ferals. Ferals will NOT let you rub their tummies...We found a home for ONE of them, lucky guy....

I'm SO glad you found homes for the kittens, hope you have as good of luck placing Mom, too!

2. I agree. You get the ones that say 'my cat doesn't match my furniture
anymore - can you take it' or 'my boyfriend doesn't like cats. Grrrrrrrrrrr

3. I think it's mostly "Either that dam cat goes, or *I* do!"
And everyone knows that a man with his own Harley and a part-time job is a better catch than a cat, anyday....

There's only 2 Ferals in the bunch. Miss Kitty, who we trapped 4 years ago and had neutered (she's never forgotten that) and a black and white wraith who runs if you get within 30 feet...

7. I have 4 feral (formerly feral) cats - they make progress but they never
seem to lose that skittishness around people - including me!

5. A lot of people are giving up their cats when they have a baby now
Based on ridiculous media scares about cats attacking babies or carrying diseases. Yes, you do need to be careful to wash your hands and keep the cat's area clean when you have a new baby in the home. But please, people have had cats and babies in the same house for centuries and everything was fine. And pets are a great for teaching kids to be caring and responsible.

8. We have had people come in to give up their cats with that very excuse
Because their stupid doctors tell them they should. You're right though, people have had pets and kids for centuries and everything was fine. We always tell them about a study that shows children who grow up around pets are less likely to have allergies as adults. I can't think of one time we changed the persons mind though. Gotta follow doctors instructions.

9. The old "Cats will suck the baby's breath" excuse?
That was ludicrous when I heard it from my grandmother 40 years ago!

Eh, you know how some people are, they think they're the FIRST people in history to actually reproduce. that's why they buy 300-pound "Baby SUV" strollers and Escapades to haul the little Golden Child around in...

4. Friendly formerly feral feline
We adopted a cat that had been living on the street and had been brought into our vet's office with a litter of kittens. The kittens were adopted almost immediately, but mom stayed with the vet for a few months. It was a couple of months before she decided that sitting on laps was a reasonable thing to do. She will occasionally ask for a brief tummy rub but clearly has her boundaries. I don't know if she was born feral or not, which probably makes a difference.
