General Motors plans to cut at least 25,000 Jobs
The army is hiring.

General Motors to cut at least 25,000 U.S. jobs by 2008: CEO

General Motors plans to cut at least 25,000 jobs by 2008, the automaker's CEO said at the company's annual meeting on Tuesday.

Speaking in Wilmington, Del., Rick Wagoner said the cuts will generate annual savings of approximately $2.5 billion US.

Wagoner did not mention any reductions in GM's staffing in Canada.

GM has been cutting plants and production in recent years, reducing its annual assembly capacity from six million units in 2002 to five million units by the end of this year, he said.

10. Must buy DVD
GM destroying itself, removing jobs, and this free trade crap will only hurt our nation in the long run. I hope people will understand that Bush's economic plans are causing them to work more to maintain their lifestyle and their kids will face a much harder time getting out on their own. 2006 should be the year to vote for democracy and economic growth for all, not the super rich.

4. What do you expect?
It's a corporation. It has only one purpose -- to make money. It's purpose is not to offer jobs, a great product, follow environmedntal laws, or anything else noble or laudable. It exists to make money. Period. If that means firing every last worker and replacing them all with robots, they will do it.

It's sad that the Supreme Court ruled about a century ago that corporations have the same rights as people, are to be treated exactly like people. Because the Supreme Court forgot one thing -- a corporation has no soul.

7. No cuts in Canada
probably because of their Single Payer medical plan- legacy costs are burying GM.

America won't be competitive until we have our own socialized medical insurance plan.

8. Poor GM. For those of us old enough to remember when they
were kings, it's pretty depressing. They bought Saab, and now their new model is a Subaru with Saab nampeplates glued on... And don't even get me started on the Chinese engines in the Equinox.
