17. They are loaded and support their son, his wife, and their 2 kids.
The son and his family are living in the dad's house while dad and mom pay the mortgage. The son also has numerous DUIs, which mom and dad managed to reduce to nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Personal responsibility is only for Democrats. I'm amazed at my sister's ability to remain cordial to these people. The kicker is the son and his wife named their daughter....Kennedy. :wow:

The Bush Economy

With all of the debate about taxes, the economy and domestic spending, it is hard to imagine anyone supporting the notion of taking money from programs like Medicaid and college-tuition assistance, increasing the tax burden of the vast majority of working Americans, sending the country into crushing debt - and giving the proceeds to people who are so fantastically rich that they don't know what to do with the money they already have. Yet that is just what is happening under the Bush administration. Forget the middle class and the upper-middle class. Even the merely wealthy are being left behind in the dust by the small slice of super-rich Americans.

In last Sunday's Times, David Cay Johnston reported that from 1980 to 2002, the latest year of available data, the share of total income earned by the top 0.1 percent of earners more than doubled, while the share earned by everyone else in the top 10 percent rose far less. The share of the bottom 90 percent declined.

President Bush did not create the income gap. But the unheralded effect of his tax policy is its unequal impact on the modestly well to do. By 2015, those making between $80,000 and $400,000 will pay as much as 13.9 percentage points more of their income in federal taxes than those making more than $400,000, assuming the tax cuts are made permanent. Below $80,000, most taxpayers will see their share of taxes rise slightly or stay the same.

except for 9/11, of course, which nobody could possibly have imagined--and which is incidentally the reason the economy's sluggish and the deficits are out of control and "civil rights" are a luxury we can no longer afford to hand out to just anyone.

20. Here's what some Republicans I know have told me
There hasn't been another terrorist attack because Bush took the fight over to their part of the world

Tax cuts have helped us spend a little more, so, the economy is going just fine thank you

At least it isn't Kerry or Gore or some other wimp, things would be much worse with a Democrat in charge

I'm from Indiana, I can't agree with Democrats' social agenda, I just wasn't raised that way

You would rather have Saddam back in power? It doesn't matter whether the reasons for attacking Iraq were justified, we should have taken him out a long time ago but the Democrats in Congress wouldn't let George Bush I do it.

Can't we talk about something else?

It's the fear that some Democrat will take their money to make their Daughter have abortions performed by a Gay OB-GYN while their son is told that it's OK to have sex with other boys in the public schools and that we will bend over backwards to please A-rabs if a Democrat is in charge. If you try to point out the facts, they clam up or laugh you off.

26. You should have heard Santorum today.
He was spouting a variation of the Frank Luntz memo that the GOP should maintain that the war in Iraq is preventing us from being attacked here at home. Here's a partial quote from today:

"I keep reminding people it has been, you know, almost -- well, almost four years -- better than three and a half years since there's been a terrorist attack here in the United States of America. I don't know of anybody on September 12th that would have predicted that. The fact of the matter is that the supplemental and the war that we're fighting has had an impact on security here at home, and that's something that we cannot forget, and that's part -- the Congress has been a big part of that in making sure that our military has the resources to fight those battles around the world."

Of course Iraq had nothing to do with September 11th, and it's mostly people unrelated to the military -- the FBI, flight attendants, pilots, airport security -- who might have prevented the attacks on September 11th. Yet Santorum has the cheek to stand there claiming Iraq this is all some great national security success and that four years without a domestic attack is pretty darn good. :puke:

Meanwhile, the bodies pile up in Iraq, and anger against American foreign policy grows around the world. We may be making a century's worth of enemies just on the Iraq war. What suffering will result over these policies? And how vile will Santorum's attempts to spin this look when horrors result?
