I Report From My Southern Trip
Well, not too much to report actually, but it is alarming to me.

I fish offshore from the Outer Banks of NC. No apologies, but that is why I have been down that way for the last week. I have two incidents to report.

The first is bothersome: On the way down I stooped by a friend's home in Kill Devil Hills and chatted for a bit. Another friend was there as well, both of whom despise the chimp. I asked if either of them had ever heard so much as a hint of anything called the Downing Street, either Memo or Minutes? Neither had heard a word. Neither is an Internet user and neither is likely to become one. No news gets to these poor folks.

Good news: I had never listened to North Carolina Public Radio before. It was a breath of fresh air. My impression is that if there is to be a model of how an Public Information network might be run they have it.

Good News: Last Friday, being a lay day, I went up to the Hampton Roads area and met up with an old friend for the day. He has bought a new-for-him boat and I was dieing to see it. He dropped his truck off for some repairs and we went to the marina where his boat is docked taking my truck. My truck is still bedecked with its Kerry/Edwards stickers as well as two anti-Bush decorations.

Two fellows came down the dock while I was being shown my friends new boat, he knew them as dock mates with their boat slipped just two down. My friend introduced me and the first thing one of the fellows said was "Is that your truck up there with the Bush stickers?" "Yep" I said, "that's how some of us feel". His response was "A hell or a lot more of us than you might think!"

We're beginning to win, I can feel it.

1. NC Public radio comes out of UNC
Yes, it's nice. The number of local programs, plus the BBC is great.

Glad you enjoyed yourselfe. :D

Are these folks by any chance older? Lots of those folks don't bother with anything if it's not on TV.

2. Yes

UNC does a great job.

My friend is a widow of about 63 or so years. She was a 'war bride' in that her late husband met and married her when stationed in Germany. You are correct, no news that doesn't come by TV or radio and as conditioned by her late husband she only listens to Country music. Not much chance of any real news on any station she might hear. Our mutual friend who was visiting is about the same age.

But then think about this, I am about that age myself, and in about as out of the way place as could be found in the eastern US - but I know.
