If anything, he might be scaring away the more conservative democrats, but they aren't worth trying to appease at this point. I think he'll end up attracting more people to the party who will actually be able to see a difference between his politics and that of the Republicans.

They like the guy, think he is about as honest a politician as we will ever see in this country. He is pragmatic and that sells to a lot of people. He calls 'em like he sees 'em and that earns him respect even from people who don't share his views, so he at least gets them to listen and see the common ground, shared values.

I knew, when I first encountered Dean (which was fairly early on -- even before his stunning CA Speech "I want my country back!") -- that IF his message were to get out relatively unfiltered by the media, that he would win in a LANDSLIDE, for the very reasons you say.

People are HUNGRY for the truth, and you give them some of it and it's like rain in the desert.
