Why is there just static this morning?

I know its been sounding very distorted recently. Hopefully they are just making repairs. On the other hand I have yet to hear a local ad after a month.

2. Yep, they've been off since I got up.

I think this is a real problem AAR is having. Affiliate stations that are operating on a shoe string.

Not only in Dallas, when I've been in other parts of the country, many times the stations are weak and hard to find. I hear in Chicago, it's very hard to hear after sundown.

If AAR is going to be a vialble alternative, they're going to have to have consistant strong signals on affiliate stations. And alas, that will take money.

(on edit: My radio shows the station is putting out a 5X5 signal, so they're broadcasting, but broadcasting nothing.)

3. I live in North Dallas...

... where 910 is pretty weak, impossible to hear on a car radio.

I turned on my handy-dandy Icom Ic-735 transceiver, which I have connnected to a coil antenna outside.

I'm getting a (medium stregth S3) carrier on 910 KHz, but no modulation. Could mean that their transmitter is working, but the audio from the studio not.

4. I Just Checked, Too

Through the marvels of modern technology, I have access to a receiver in the DFW area. Yep, 910 is sending a signal...a weak one, but no audio.

I'm also hearing "white noise"...usually meaning one of two receivers is down. The one connecting the station to the satellite or the station to the transmitter. Either way, hopefully someone at the station is alert...if not, a friendly local call might not hurt.

We have that problem regularly with the new AAR affiliate in Chicago. It'll vanish until someone at the station wakes up and all of a sudden it's back. Ahh...quality control at minimum wage.

5. My Sony 2010 world band radio has a signal strength meter ...

...and it's showing the signal at 90%. So appreantly they're on the air, but maybe for some reason the feed is down or some component in the control center is busted. Normally you have back-ups, but I have the feeling this station doesn't have that kind of depth.

Actually, I took a road trip northward last month and was able to listen to 910 until almost Oklahoma City.

6. Have heard a couple of local ads

They are mainly for real estate in Austin but they are local ads. They have seemed to have a lot of trouble lately tho ...almost like they are broadcasting directly from a real audio feed.....
