Illinois Govenor being sued by Americans "United for Life" over pharmacist
CHICAGO, June 8 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Today, Americans United for Life filed suit on behalf of pharmacy owner Luke Vander Bleek of Morrison, Illinois against Gov. Rod Blagojevich over his emergency rule issued April 1, 2005 requiring pharmacies to dispense contraceptives and abortifacient drugs such as the morning-after pill "without delay."

The suit alleges in part that the Governor's emergency rule violates the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act by telling compelling pharmacy owners who do not want to carry drugs such as the morning-after pill that can cause abortions to act against its ethical and moral beliefs in dispensing such drugs. The suit also challenges the ability of the Governor to require health care providers to violate their conscience or choose another career.

AUL attorneys believe that if the Governor's rule is allowed to stand, the rights of conscience of all health care providers in the state are in jeopardy.

Edward R. Martin, Jr., attorney and director of the Center for the Rights of Conscience at Americans United for Life said, "Luke Vander Bleek is suing to protect his rights as an American--his right to build a business, contribute to society as a health care professional, and to live according to his principles. The Governor is trampling the rights of health care professionals and small business owners through his emergency rule."

2. I believe pharmacists are required to be state licensed. My demand
is that the states pull the license of any pharmacist that cannot act professionally and fullfil his oath.

6. Well, they are punished one way of the other...
It is the pharmacists' job to fill prescriptions, not to be the moral arbiters of the medical world. Some people don't believe in vaccinating their children, some people think that all pharmaceuticals are bad and only "natural" remedies should be allowed. Should we have all these people deciding what you and I can do with legally prescribed medicines?

8. Yes, not for moral reasons but for breech of contract
Besides sitting in an air conditioned prison cell with three square meals a day beats killing innocents in Iraq any day.

Modern warfare requires certain expectations of the continuity of command and availability of force. While people may be freely motivated and in agreement in certain instances such as the Flying Tigers or Abraham Lincoln Brigade the problematic situation of missile officers or nuclear technicians independently evaluating their actions would bring paralysis to the whole system. Joining the military means surrendering free will in deference to the Commander in Chief. His actions in turn are controlled by the political process.

5. So if I were a pharmacist,
and later changed my religion to Christian Scientist, could I refuse to dispense ANY AND ALL medicine because it was against my religion?
