"Over the top" statements by Dean and Rangel
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 06:00 PM by Behind the Aegis
There has been much discussion about the appropriateness and correctness of the statements made by each man. One poster opined that it may be because it is a good way to attract media attention, which considering the state of media, this may be true. However, by doing this, do these two, and others who may follow suit, run the risk of losing credibility or is this a smart "strategy?"

I know the two statements are not comparable, but both are being treated as over-the-top.

On edit: I do not personally think either statements were over-the-top. I am saying they are being treated that way by the MSM and some fellow Democrats!!!

1. I don't know anything about Rangel's statements...
...but IMO Dean's have not been "over the top" by any stretch of the imagination. For the most part they've been accurate representations of the 2,000 lb elephant in the living room that no one seems willing to talk about.

3. I agree about Dean
It is being treated as "over the top" by the media, and that is to what I was referring. I just wonder if there was a more politically savvy way of saying the same thing, or was it done to get attention? Lord knows the MSM doesn't give us attention unless there is a scandal or someone says something they see as "over the top."

16. Rangel basically (and correctly) said the case for Iraq was a fraud,....
,...among other things *LOL*!!!

He pointed out that the Bushco/neocons have committed the worst fraud against the American people since the holocaust, which is the truth!!!

2. Smart strategy.
And strategy doesn't need quotation marks as if it's pretend strategy.

4. Quotes
I used quotes because I was indicating it may or may not be a strategy, because I honestly don't know if it is one.

15. You'll see the logic come campaign time,
when all our candidates are saying "What? I didn't make that charge! Someone may have said that but it wasn't me! Whether or not my opponent has been completely open about his financing or his sexuality is no concern of mine!"

Don't you remember when the repubs set actual records for negativity in the presidential campaign last year and shrub could just blink at the reporters and say "I never said that...I've always said John Kerry served with distinction and valor!"

Howard Dean will be a jim-dandy attack dog. I'm looking forward to it!

I agree that Dean will be a great attack dog. I hope that he will inspire more Dems to speak out.

9. I see what you are saying.
But, do you think it is intentional on their part (the Dems) in order to get media coverage? I mean, honestly, we don't get coverage unless it is something the MSM would describe as 'over-the-top,' even if it isn't!

10. Dean is living up to his credibility
He is telling the story hard and straight and the right is falling all over themselves with shock and horror. Oh imagine the truth being told in public, how could he?

13. it is kinda funny
Unlike the "Dean Scream," it seems Dean is in control this go around. But, would he be able to get his message out had he not phrased it the way he did? I am more angry at the Dems who are now "distancing" themselves. The only upside is it exposes who will follow and who will lead...lead on DR. DEAN!

14. We need to distance ourselves from those Democrats who sit
still and say nothing to help the party or the people. I love the party and everyone in it but if I have to choose, I will take Dean over these fancy pants politicians who phrase their sentences to mean nothing at all.....

17. I agree!
I have been very disillusioned by the number of Dems who are 'distancing' themselves from Dean because of this. I mean, how bizarre! I hope that Dean inspires MORE Dems to speak out.

Are they consistent? Are they funny?

If the answer is no, no, no; then somebody needs to shut their mouth.

20. as long as they focus their attacks on the leaders and fits in a soundByte
i think it is good as it gets media attention on problems of their flawed policies. and when they get invited to address the issue they can refine it

also todays public is looking for leaders who are bold not timid and that feeds that perception.

considering we are on the cusp of WWIII all of us MUST BE BOLD in our dissent.

well, theres my 2 cents

peace

Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 06:06 PM by James T. Kirk
...that was "over the top"?

* I'm anti-Rangel because of his support for the reimposition of the draft.

22. Inaccurate comparison
There is a link in LBN about his comparing the fraud of this war to the Holocaust. He actually meant the SILENCE surrounding both events. Some people have their knickers in a twist. Personally, I think it was just a bad comparison, and it is easily fixed.

24. So true
But, since the Rethugs control the media, unflattering remarks are overlooked -- OR -- they are brought on and the "journalist" corrects the statement for them as "misspeak!" :eyes: Personally, I don't fear the controversy, especially when it is true. Maybe it was as "nice" as some would like it, fuck them...nice has lost us the House, the Senate, the filibuster, and the White House...fuck "nice!"
