SF Bay Area IT hiring expected to dip in Q3

A net 11 percent of chief information officers in the San Francisco Bay Area expect to hire information technology professionals in the third quarter of 2005, according to a survey conducted for Robert Half Technology of Menlo Park.

Fifteen percent of executives surveyed plan to add staff during the quarter while 4 percent anticipate reductions in personnel. The net 11 percent hiring increase is equal to the national average but down 2 percentage points from the area's second-quarter 2005 forecast.

The majority of respondents, 76 percent, foresee no change in hiring in the third quarter.

"Businesses are showing increased optimism in their hiring plans, but they remain realistic," says Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology, in a written statement. "CIOs are carefully evaluating their key requirements and adding full-time staff only when they identify a long-term need for a particular position or skill set."
