Does anyone notice the Republicans trying to take the high road?

I recently noticed that in criticism of the Democrats, the Republicans have tried to paint themselves as the party that is taking the high road. I often here the charge that the Democratic candidates have nothing to offer except nasty insults of Bush. This is not true because there are several issues being discussed. Who are they to take talk with present and past leaders such as Tom Delay, Orrin Hatch, Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott, John Ashcroft and Jesse Helms? In the fall of 2002, while campaigning in the Congressional elections, Bush was going around making speeches shouting remarks like "the Democrats are not interested in security and protecting the American people". They also seem to forget the "un-patriotic" smear of triple amputee, war veteran Max Cleland. Or how about the Georgia governors race where the Confederate Flag was the issue that was run on? Individuals like Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter constantly spew insults, hate, venom by making inflammatory remarks like "liberals are traitors". During the 1990's, individuals and organizations such as Richard Mellon Scaife, The American Spectator, and conservative talk radio conducted a non-stop, well financed smear campaign of Clinton. Someone told me how Hannity has recently made the charge that the Democrats are so negative and nasty and it is at a level never witnessed before. Who the hell is he to talk about negativity when the radio waves are filled with idividuals like himself that are constantly spewing out attacks, lies and hate.

that this is nothing new. I always have referred to the Republican Part y as the Hypocrite Party. They've been doing this since as far back as Reagan (as a 30 year old I have no knowledge before that, though from what little I do know about the Nixon campaigns and administration, I'm sure these tactics stretch back at least that far).

They would have porked the same poor pooch had they had a chance and they are still porkin' yon pooch today! They call us every name in the book and then in the next breath say we are the namecallers! When the future of America is at stake we need to pull out ALL the stops!

3. They actually have nothing to talk about.

They are in total control of the government, and the country is on the slippery slope to a cesspool. They tried to revolutionize American foreign policy by replacing the traditional Wilsonianism with Teddy Roosevelt's approach, and they have fallen flat on their face. The economy is sputtering, and the only thing they can offer is tax cuts. The Republican quiver is empty. So all they can do is attack the Democrats for pointing that out, and pray for the economy to turn around. The Republicans are essentially ideologically bankrupt, and I think they know it. The Reagan Revolution is at an end, and they have nothing to offer as a replacement.

I agree that since they are the party in charge of Congress and the presidency, the Republicans now have no one to scapegoat and attack for the failed policies of tax cuts/Iraq war. The criticisms being leveled are valid, the American people are slowly opening their eyes and the Republican's tactics is an act of desperation. The Reagan Revolution is over but it actually ended in the 90's. Bush became president by fluke and consoldated power in 2002 by the twisted blessing given after 9/11.

5. It's a Rove tactic

Notice all the criticisms of Kennedy's charges. He is taking the low road, he is uncivil, he is being unpatriotic in the war on terror.
Notice that the charges Kennedy made are not being denied. Instead of denying all the stuff they are getting caught with, they are attacking the accusers for being uncivil by charging them with doing bad things.

I don't know if they can sustain this for another year. It's been 4 days now, and not one republican that I am aware of, has actually denied that $1.5 billion of the $4 billion a month we are spending for Iraq is unaccounted for at this time. Not one denial. Just the "uncivil" charges. Is the media that compliant, that they will continue to allow the republicans to not address the charges?

9. Another Tactic I've Noticed

They tell loud lies to make certain the media covers the point they want the public to believe then later whisper an apology that may or may not show up in page 22 of your local paper.

If anyone asks, "Hey, we corrected our statement/position but the media didn't feel it was 'newsworthy.'"

the whisper Bush made admitting that Hussein was not linked to 9/11 after for months he use 9/11/Iraq/Hussein in the same breath to intentionaly mislead the American people and especially after Cheney lied his ass off about terrorism and Iraq on Meet the Press.

But you are correct. They are charging Democrats with being "negative and nasty"....and Bush just called Kennedy's remarks "uncivil". But it is an insult to the intelligence of the American people after 8 years of "stains", "beating off" and "markings on penis" etc, the Repubs would charge someone else with being "nasty" or "uncivil". But the people do need to be reminded just who are the uncivil ones are in the equation...

13. Big caution to the Dems----hopefully this time they are smarter

Every damn time the repukes do this and convince the Dems that the "American people won't stand for it". Every time the Dems start then toning down and doing what the repukes want. ANd every time, like Lucy with the football the goddamn repukes spread and hit filth on all our candidates. This time DON"T play their game---keep hitting them. In fact, let's start using outright words like Liar and Fraud---most of our guys still shy from going "that far". If they don't go "that far" this time, they won't knock off the asshole (remember they called Al a liar for nothing---and this bastard is a lot more than 'nothing').
