The Bush "Haters"
Is it me, or is it somewhat ironic that the right is horrified at how much the left just "hates Bush". I mean when Clinton was President, the right was so kind and civil and just let him do his job, and never questioned any of his military operations and never wasted his time with petty scandals and, oh nevermind.

1. Your Memory Serves You Well
I remember 8 years of bipartisan pleasantness and absolutely no political bickering. Oh, wait a minute! I meant the exact opposite.

4. Exactly
whine whine whine. "We didn't do anything wrong. Our policies are all great and perfectly executed. The Left Wing just has an irrational hate for our glorious leader. Waaa Waaa Waaa...."

5. Republicans and conservatives have made themselves hateful.
The reasonable response is to hate the hateful.

Clearly, the cons live in a dreamworld in which they can peddle hate but bleeding-heart liberals are too nice to hate them in return. Progressives, however, are not nice.

The problem with hate is that it tends to lead to violence and bloodshed. But when Republican-Conservative haters make themselves hateful, what other response is reasonable?

13. More "either/or" thinking...
They mistake criticism and disagreement with hate. Bush laid out the parameters very clearly... you're either with the U.S. or you are with the terrorists type language sounds tough but it's never helpful to anyone.

The problem with hate is that it tends to lead to violence and bloodshed. But when Republican-Conservative haters
make themselves hateful, what other response is reasonable?

You know that answer. Hate the violence and hate the bloodshed, hate the lies and hate the meanness, but don't hate people. It's not easy to see, but try to see where the hateful ideas are coming from.

Here's a good article: http://www.tikkun.org/magazine/index.cfm/action/tikkun/issue/tik0309/article/030903a.html
There's some "promotion" going on in the text, but pay attention to the message.

One interesting thought from the article:
"The first thing we discovered is this: Most people have bought into the ideology of the
Meritocracy. They believe that America is a society where "you can make it if you really try,"
and hence they end up blaming themselves for not being "enough"—smart enough, clever
enough, persistent enough, attractive enough, ruthless enough, charming enough, or _______
(fill in the blank when you tell your own self-blaming story). It is this personal failure that
explains why they personally have not been more successful. These self-blaming stories are
an integral part of the consciousness of most people in this society, no matter where they are
in the class hierarchy (we even found college presidents engaged in self-blaming to explain
why they weren't the Secretary of Education or in some other position of power). And
because they blame themselves instead of feeling that they have the right to challenge the
social order with its inequalities of power and wealth, they direct their anger against
themselves, and feel terrible about themselves."

6. It's not just you...
They're just playing the victim (because they remember that in the thick of their attack Clinton had approval ratings well above Chim-Chim's...and they didn't fall the way his do, either).

Or....MOST of them are just spinning to play the victim. There's also a faction that's in full cognitive dissonance and really does believe there's no relation.

22. I would have suported this one
If it had been done right. Saddam did need to be confronted so that the sanctions could be ended once and for all. If he had refused to capitulate in the face of pressure from the entire UN we could have gone in there with the entire worlds support. Problem is it apears that he was cooperating so we probbly would have never gotten to the point where I would have supported it no matter who was in office.

10. No comparison

The Right hated Clinton the way they hated the USSR. They had found the strawman-boogeyman-bugbear to fuel the fear in their collective mind. He did not deserve the hate that they invented. He beat them and he outsmarted them quite often and his personna was one that rubbed these pallid skinned dark hearted weasels to no end.

Bush however is a clumsy liar, a swiss cheese intellect and back slapping satan. He has done much damage to us all even the rich and deserves no love and hate can be defended by the facts.

Answer me this you spies: why under Bush's watch does it seem that all hell has broken loose? Not by coincidence mind you.

21. "Blinded by the Right" - essentially, the Right-Wingers
were directionless after the "fall of Communism" (which, incidentally, really spurred a bunch of free-market capitalism, in theory, when it came to USSR's nukes).

They found a beacon of light to direct their hate towards in Bill Clinton.

11. All things rethug make me ill.
The rethugs wrote the dirty tricks play book.

They can sure dish it out (the Clinton years) but they can't take it. I, for one will never forget. Oh lets say Dori Monson on Kiro, which is supposed to be a moderate news radio station, making a three day skit out of the Lewinski deps, with an actress, who had a extreme valley girl voice, quite a caricature, reading the Lewinski parts. Now this news station did not do that for news value, but to humiliate President Clinton. Dori Monson claims he is an independent but really he is just part of the big rethug noise machine.

Hey, Dori thanks for showing me how the thugs really act and for making me a democrat for life.

12. I think they can take it
But use the "those low Dems... I am offended" schtick because it works. Americans fall for this. Republican plotters often follow what you'd see played-out in Pro-Westling and Americans eat it up with a spoon.

The Wellstone memorial was an example of this. "It was no memorial" they say, but a bellicose besmirching of all that is sacred to advance Liberalism.

Re-publican schemes are highly planned and orchestrated. With lots of money and think tank micro-management monkies, though with less flash than the WWF, but with far more danager.

Franken was just on with Ross. And yes, Monson is part of the spin-cycle. The thing that cracks me up is that he actually believes that he's very intelligent, when he might be just a hair over average.

That is amount the republicans spent on Hearings and Investigations in a "failed" effort to "destroy" a "Great" presidency.

PRESIDENT CLINTON--GREATEST PRESIDENT OF TWENTIETH CENTURY.

In spite of what you hear--Records-Records-Records--Facts-Facts-Numbers-Numbers.

They all say Greatest. NO PRESIDENT CAN MATCH HIS NUMBERS.

19. Okay, how would the RW have responded?
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 11:19 AM by jumptheshadow
Would the RW had been worked about Clinton:

* If Bill Clinton had invaded Iraq without an exit plan?
* If Bill Clinton had run up elephantine deficits while exponentially expanding government spending?
* If Janet Reno had gone on the stomp around the country advocating the Patriot II bill?
* If Janet Reno had held any Americans without due process?
* If the Clinton FBI had allowed a planeload of Saudis to depart from our country without proper questioning after 9/11?
* If the Clinton administration had awarded no-bid contracts in Iraq for a company formerly headed by Al Gore?
* If wounded soldiers had to pay for their own meals while Clinton was in power?

And the list goes on and on...

24. Great Jonathan Chait Article at TNR
It's a very long article and a great read. Chait is a terrific writer.

Mad About You
by Jonathan Chait

I hate President George W. Bush. There, I said it. I think his policies rank him among the worst presidents in U.S. history. And, while I'm tempted to leave it at that, the truth is that I hate him for less substantive reasons, too. I hate the inequitable way he has come to his economic and political achievements and his utter lack of humility (disguised behind transparently false modesty) at having done so. His favorite answer to the question of nepotism--"I inherited half my father's friends and all his enemies"--conveys the laughable implication that his birth bestowed more disadvantage than advantage. He reminds me of a certain type I knew in high school--the kid who was given a fancy sports car for his sixteenth birthday and believed that he had somehow earned it...
