1. My letter to BestBuy

I'm sorry to say that I can no longer support your store. I am a longtime customer and I have purchased both high-priced and low priced items from BestBuy on a regular basis, however since you are advertising with ESPN Sunday NFL Countdown I can no longer in good conscience continue to be a customer. Now that ESPN uses Rush Limbaugh as a commentator, I no longer watch the show and will not watch the show until he is removed from it. As you may have noticed the ratings for Sunday Night Football on ESPN are down this season while the numbers for all other games are up. This is not a coincidence. A very large community of people believe that extreme right wing political commentary has no place in the sporting world and refuse to support this man in anything he does.

2. I admit, I watched Countdown in week 1

Just to see what Limbaugh was actually doing. Quite frankly the whole idea is stupid. He gets his own 2-minute commentary, then occasionally gets to "throw in the red flag" to butt in on a discussion the main analysts are having. It is pointless. He adds nothing to the show but his name, which will of course occasionally attract a few people to the show, but also permanently drive others away. Trying to be neutral here, if I were a TV critic, I would say the whole idea is lame and sutpid and a waste of Limbaugh's "talent", even though I use the word loosely. They could put anybody in his place and it would still be a stupid idea. It is obvious this was the result of Limbaugh's agent calling up and begging somebody to put him on a football show. He's still bitter about losing out on the Monday Night gig.

3. Hopefully ESPN will buy a clue

and fire Limbaugh before the Broncos vs Colts game near the end of the season.

4. He is VERY MUCH out of his element... and it shows

First off, he's not used to doing a show in which he actually has to interact with others on at least an equal footing. You can see how much it troubles him to not be able to just cut the other (much more informed) hosts of the show off and talk about his POV as if it were the gospel.

Secondly, he knows nothing more about football than the average Joe off the street. In fact, he probably knows considerably less -- like when he made the statement this week, "The squib kick is like the prevent defense -- it never works," in reference to the NY Giants debacle on Monday night.

I've watched enough football in my life to know that the squib kick DOES work, because it doesn't enable the returning team to set up their wedge and run their return as drawn up. It forces one of the "up" men to pick up the ball, or the kicking team gets downfield by the time the returner picks it up. And I am FAR from being some kind of football junkie, believe me!

That's just one example of his ineptitude. He doesn't bring ANYTHING to the table other than his name. He doesn't offer any real insight into the games that the average fan can't give simply by shouting at the TV. And while he may excite a small percentage of watchers, he is bound to alienate far more from the other side of the political spectrum.
