Thank you AAR! Why do you think the Democrats have shown some...
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 08:37 PM by Zinfandel
spine the last nine month's or so? They finally have a national media forum. Thanks to AAR and its listeners -- It's obviously helped the Democrats in Congress. They are speaking out... finally! :bounce:

AAR is kicking ass & growing and provides us all with information as well as an interesting progressive and liberal forum and gathering point.

I'm sure it pisses off Rove and the republicans to no end -- who thought it would never last and the republicans would have all MSM covered, (not to say they won't go after AAR some way in the future, they will).

AAR needs to strengthen in it's most influential affiliates, Where the power brokers are -- Do they have a strong signal in New York City, (I think they do -- I listen in N CA, via Sirius & Internet).

And maybe some stronger signals & coverage area is needed in the other media centers and decision making towns --- Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angles.

I really think it's to our benefit to support Air America Radio (of course theirs too). Shit, buy an AAR coffee cup or some gear or something, it ALL adds up.

To me, it's already made an obvious difference, with Boxer, Kennedy, Conyers, to name a few, who now KNOW they have some kind of forum to get their message out to the American people each day...

I guess I'm doing a bit of Cheer-Leading for AAR -- I don't mind they need and deserve it! I appreciate them very much.:toast: :smoke:

CHEERS!

2. DC definitely needs a stronger signal than AM 1260

Someone said "Even DOGS can't hear it."

11. Pass a set of utility wires and you lose it
And at night it gets drowned out by superstations with powerful long-distance signals.

This shouldn't happen in DC.

10. Don't know, but they keep adding stations and..
more and more Democrats in the House and Senate seem to be taking their messages there. Especially on the wonderful Randi Rhodes show.

How could it NOT do well...There's a HUGE hunger out there for AAR! :bounce:

14. Too many of the stations are glorified ham radio sets.
Their initial business plan was awful.

I haven't been following them much (Sometimes I get Randi online), but the rating I've seen haven't been too impressive. I was hoping they were selective numbers.

9. Atlanta has a pretty good signal, actually...
they just recently upgraded it.

I would like to see AAR, and all Democrats, contribute to a local marketing campaign for Air America. Bulletin Boards are really not that expensive, and with all of the commuters I see here in Atlanta I know it would get plenty of notice.

12. Buy ads
That's the best way to support them. I recently heard an ad for a liberal church on our local Progressive Talk Radio station. If you know someone who's a progressive business owner, talk to them about advertising.

Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 10:12 PM by Zinfandel
Someone on DU wrote that Atlanta, when it first stared on AAR was a very weak affiliate (signal) and now, its much stronger.

More so, we need to support AAR!

15. AAR's OK. But the on-air personalities are preaching to the....
choir.Randi is the most guilty of this. With the exception of Franken and Lampher, no one attempts to engage the other POV.

Not talking about screamfests with Hannity-types; talking about striking a slightly more *dispassionate* tone.

It wears better and it's more persuasive.

16. Randi says she doesn't air the other pov because it's already out there
I agree. We need one unified voice against the lies, and it's AAR. When a dem wants to expose the wrongdoings of the B*** crime family, that dem needs a reason to hope it might work, or else it might mean that person's job. With AAR, there's hope that our message will be heard. It's certainly not on MSM.

20. But it's also about *persuasion*; or should be.
You have to get people listening to you who are not especially political. Most people fall into this category. And people like this are, by definition, somewhat open to changing their opinion. But ya get'em to listen first.

I can't picture someone like this saying " I can't wait to get home to listen to Randi Rhodes tonite." Her appeal is strictly to the already converted. To the casual radio channel surfer, I suspect she sounds shrill and unpleasant. Franken does not... 'least I don't think he does.

And it's not just Randi; the morning show is relentlessly one-sided. I agree with 95% of what's being expressed but for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone who is less committed would tune in.

But there's a lot of things I don't understand.

21. preaching to the choir, It has been YEARS since I heard my POV
I sat at my radio when I first heard AAR, with my mouth opened in shock, my heart soaring, The right POV has been broadcasting 24/7 for so long, Preaching to the choir is still needed here, the Right POV has their stations, we have ours...PREACH AWAY!

19. AAR just hired a marketing manager
Story here:

Their ratings may not be gangbusters yet, but it's still very early in the game.

22. I dunno
we don't get motivated by stuff like that. I have core values. Seeing my country taken away makes me go out and work and spend time on conservative boards trying to tell them we have SOME of the same values, while the bushies have zippo. I enjoyed AAR while it was here in Chicago, but apart from Franken, I preferred NPR.

They had a show by Chuck D for a while with the hippest music. They should consider making that a HUGE part of their programming. We are not like redneck Xtian pricks, we already know the facts and we just need a community to listen and enjoy. AAR is just too strident all the time. It's time to have some entertainment, then come back in and CLOBBER those GOPricks, IMO. I think the idiots who voted against their own self interest are finding out how wrong and stupid they were.

I am working to take down some GOP congressmen. They will never see us coming, since we are not a registered group and do not raise money. Just suddenly there will be 100 people knocking on doors, posters all over the place, etc. (and we are doing the same to Santorum, even though he doesn't live in my state; he's just such a t-ball, I can't resist contributing).

Sorry for the rant, but we have a chance to slaughter these guys on the ground, and I don't think AAR can be specific enough.

24. You're so correct...
I was so incredibly happy the first time I heard AAR programming. I was down in S. Florida on vacation and it was like getting a shot of life saving insulin, or something like that. Where I'm from, in Western NY, it has been 24 hour right wing hate speech, Limpballs and the usual suspects, on talk radio for the last decade. We get Democracy Now from a low power AM station from Niagara Falls and a few hours of local progressive talk on that same station, but that's about it. Now I listen to AAR on line.
I for one appreciate the full spectrum of discussion and dissent on AAR. From the well tempered Al Franken, to the great Randi, and on to that iconoclastic performance artist Mike Malloy, AAR is providing a voice and forum for we who have been silenced for far too long.

I hate the word STRIDENT when applied to progressives who are in the public limelight, whatever their media. We need to declare war against the neocons and fundies. Nicey nicey doesn't cut it anymore.
