2. Seen it, heard it, it is disgusting....
This one was brainwashed by the extremist garbage of the whole fringe religion movement. They seem to think this is god's retribution and satan's wishes, and all so many other crazy off the record tripe.

Of course, Jerry Falwell's pollution machine has been turning out this BS for ages. They don't know that they are the ones helping satan, and allowing the absolute immoral insanity and whatever else they want to call it.

No-They don't realize THEY'RE responsible and blame everything else...Try to wake him up, see the forest from the trees....

6. yikes
how do you know this dude?

I've come across several who, like him espouse all sorts of spiritual beliefs while not so subtly slipping in all sorts of not so subtle derrogatory remarks.

This kind of superior pseudo spirituality really sucks. IMHO.

and his attempts at flirting has been really lame. I was thinking of putting him on ignore for a few weeks now. I just didn't know this stuff was lying in wait. I just thought he was a computer nerd.

11. Crazy indeed, but no crazier than any of the established religions....
Unfortunately there are much crazier people following that mythological dead carpenter who would kill abortion doctors and deny sick people the right to grow and use a medicinal plant.

In my humble estimation, it is the followers of mainstream religions and THEIR representatives in Congress who are far more dangerous.

"Ken" seems nutty, but harmless.

19. Religion is at the root of most of the world's misery....
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 06:30 PM by gmsage
...and most people who believe in ghosts (holy or not) think that someone else who may believe in say, alien abductions, or allah, or urantia, or the Jersey Devil, (I even know a head trauma case who believes that he is underground comic book character, Fat Freddy) is off their rocker. I've heard this from religious people all my life. But it is all fantasy. Tell me this, have you ever seen anybody rise from the dead? How about turning stones into loaves of bread? It's a metaphor. A parable is meant to convey a bigger message, not to be believed literally.

Literal belief in religious parable has been the cause of many bloody and senseless wars, maybe even all of them. The christian bible was written hundreds of years after the mythical Jesus was alleged to have lived and died. Many of the biblical stories in the new testament are identical to the ones in the old, just told by different people separated by generations. It's not unlike an urban legend that gains new details every time it's told, till in the end, it becomes completely new story.

Like overdose deaths from marijuana, gods and devils are just imaginary friends and enemies. Smoke and mirrors. Those who sell religion have a vested interest in your belief. It is their bread and butter. Christ, I feel like I'm pullin' the beard off Santa here.

Most people who believe in such things are harmless. I'm not advocating tearing down their churches or banning their beliefs, but one thing I know is that politics is for rational people with both feet in the world of reality. I WILL NOT BE GOVERNED BY RELIGION, whether it is practiced by Republicans or Democrats.

The Reconstructionists in our Congress are dangerous people and are part of a bigger plan cooked up by Paul Weyrich and Richard Vigaurie to use religion, as it has always been used, to control EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

Rational minds must prevail or the planet is doomed, and if Bush has his way, the entire Universe. And speaking of the Universe,I guess even it's existence could also be challenged if judged according to my worldview. But isn't challenging such beliefs the most important role of science?

22. i agree with you in large part, of course
but organized religion has served a valuable function in the cohesiveness of societies. organized religion can be seen as a component of many emergent cultures. it provided otherwise disparate people with a unifying idea.

I'm not arguing for or against, mind you. I'm making a functionalist argument.

20. Why Is It?
Whenever somebody is critical of religion around here, they get labeled as a bigot or having a "closed mind?"

I think there is a thing as too much tolerance, and that seems to be the rule around here.
