Some of the jabs our side managed to get in at yesterday's hearing
Some prime digs and sarcasm at non-Sense-nbrenner during the hearing by the Dems:

Conyers: I want to thank you for complying with the rules. But, I mean, we can do this in a friendly tone or a hostile tone... I think that this tells the story to everybody what the real environment is like here.

Mel Watt: Let me thank the chair for convening the hearing even though he's doing it according to the rules, and he started out kinda testy. (looks at nonSense) And also thank the chairman for not interrupting the witnesses and applying an overly technical view of this hearing.

Jerrold Nadler: Let me express my appreciation for your civility to the witnesses.

Sheila Jackson Lee: I will yield to my two colleagues because of the disorientation of the chairman.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz: As the senator from Arizona (Trent Franks) stated, sometimes the world does see our vision of democracy, warts and all... this proceeding would be one version of that democracy.

1. AND...Sheila Jackson Lee didn't thank Sensenbrenner
when she was thanking her "colleagues" on the panel. I just LOVED that. She slapped his fat ass face by ignoring it! :bounce: She rocks! :yourock:

3. That was a stitch!
But he ignored her calls for point of order over and over and over. "disoriented" was an apt word to get into the record. Amen!

2. Good comments, thanks.
Remember, always keep the moral upper hand. Don't respond by going to their level. Atticus Finch was my hero.

4. Oh my favorite
uppityperson, "To Kill a Mockingbird". Ah, Ms. Lee - what a voice! As for Sensenbrenner, he makes me ashamed that I'm from Wisconsin (he's not my district thank gawd). I've e-mailed him an "uplifting" note.

7. We do have some awesome folks
on our side.

I've been very impressed by Debbie Wasserman Schultz. For a freshmman, she really gets it.

And bless Conyers (again) for telling it like it is.

8. Sensenberger had no intention of conducting a bonafide hearing
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 06:51 PM by ailsagirl
After Conyers had been talking for a few minutes, the chair just interrupted him and started in about people's not keeping to the topic, people who called for this hearing not being there (and he HAD to list the names and make sure it was part of the record), people's not sticking to what was agreed upon to talk about, etc. etc.

Some of the quotes:

"...unfounded, totally unrelated conspiracy theories, ...unfounded hyperbole, ...no relation to reality, ...irresponsible, ...impugn the honorable law enforcement officials entrusted with protecting the security of the American people." :spank:

And on and on.

But the thing is, HE WAS READING ALL THIS-- he had his complaints already written on a piece of paper sitting in front of him, which he referred to continually. Whoever said it was a setup was right on. It was a fraud.

What a lying phony he is. That wasn't a hearing-- it was a travesty, a charade. They had no intention of hearing the witnesses or the Dems out.

This must go on ALL THE TIME (the arrogant dismissal of the Dems and their concerns). Hearing about it is one thing-- actually seeing it is another.

:grr: :grr:
