"Real" Liberal Radio-"The Guy James Show" at 7pm--Please keep kicked
Jefferson Morley from the Washington Post will be our guest tonight. He is doing a great job with the Downing Street Memo story and will fill us in with all he knows. He REALLY cares about this story and will not let it die.

888-602-7500, 7501, 7502, 7503, 7504 or tune in to 239-479-5540, or 239-263-6570 in Ft. Myers or Naples, Florida. Catch the live stream at www.theguyjamesshow.com

Its going to be a hot show tonight because I'm going for the throat regarding the criticism of Howard Dean.

Be there and help make this a good one.

Guy

FOLKS!

http://www.officialstats.com.nyud.net:8090/donate/unclesam-donate.png

There will be NO GUY JAMES SHOW after the end of this month UNLESS YOU DONATE NOW.

He needs to raise $4000!

I am giving $100 in addition to my usual donation, meant to match 10% of the first $1000 raised.

Post in this thread today how much you are donating, please!

And keep this kicked.

Guy has a wonderful opportunity to syndicate in a few months IF and ONLY IF he can keep the show going!

It is in your hands now.

8. He is good!
I checked him out last week on someone's (probably Ben's) recommendation and ended up donating then and there. We have to support our own. Guy takes no commercial money and is entirely listener supported.

12. Looking forward to the program
I have got my snacks laid out and ready to go at it. I hope Guy will comment on two big stories our of Florida. The first is Kathryn Harris possibly challenging Nelson for his senate seat. However, the even bigger story is Mel Martinez coming out and saying we need to shut down Gitmo. Of course there is Howard Dean, but I do not get the controversy. He is ju8st calling the Republicans what they really are. The only question is whether Dean is really trying to fight with them or if he is trying to tell the Democrats to start to fight the Reps on their level. What he did show is that the Dems can, if they want to, take control of the debate rather than let the Reps define all debates and the language of. I guess I have a lot on my mind.

26. Senator suggests shutting down Guantanamo Bay prison
Here is the story from USA Today earler today on Martinez

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-06-11-mel-martinez-gitmo_x.htm

Senator suggests shutting down Guantanamo Bay prison

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Sen. Mel Martinez said the Bush administration should consider closing the Guantanamo Bay prison for terrorism suspects — the first high-profile Republican to make the suggestion.

Sen. Mel Martinez, who strongly supported Bush's efforts in Iraq during his campaign last year, expressed concerns about progress in the war.
Lawrence Jackson, AP

"It's become an icon for bad stories and at some point you wonder the cost-benefit ratio," Martinez said Friday. "How much do you get out of having that facility there? Is it serving all the purposes you thought it would serve when initially you began it, or can this be done some other way a little better?"

Martinez, who served in President Bush's first cabinet and is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, made his comments after Democratic Sen. Joseph Biden's suggested that the prison in Cuba be shut down.

President Bush said Wednesday that his administration was "exploring all alternatives" for detaining the prisoners.

Human rights groups and former detainees say prisoners at Guantanamo have been mistreated. The Pentagon said last week that some U.S. personnel there mishandled prisoners' copies of the Quran, the Muslim holy book.

That disclosure followed a report in Newsweek, later retracted, that U.S. investigators had confirmed that a guard had flushed a prisoner's Quran in a toilet. The White House blamed that report for violent protests in Muslim nations.

Amnesty International called the facility "the gulag of our time." Former President Carter has also said Guantanamo should be closed.

Martinez, who strongly supported Bush's efforts in Iraq during his campaign last year, also expressed concerns about progress in the war.

"I am discouraged by how long it has taken for us to begin to draw down some forces," Martinez, R-Fla., said at the annual Florida Society of Newspaper Editors/Florida Press Association convention.

He said he has had to write many condolence letters to the families of Floridians killed in Iraq.

"It brings home the importance of the decision to send men and women to go to war," he said. "It has become a foreign fighters' war against us there and the progress seems slow and difficult."

30. Toledo Blade story on $215 Million lost on hedge fund (MDL)
Bermuda is where some American companies and foreign investors go to shield profits from taxes and to save money, but the state of Ohio did the reverse and lost $215 million in the inviting tax haven.

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation lost $215 million in what it says was an unauthorized hedge-fund investment with MDL Capital Management, which is actually based in Pittsburgh.

Even so, the hedge fund, called the Active Duration Fund, is listed with a Bermuda address. And the contract signed by the bureau’s former chief financial officer, Terry Gasper, specifies that any disputes have to be decided in a Bermuda court. The wording of the contract also appears to hold MDL free from liability for losses.

Bureau officials yesterday said the Bermuda provisions were “extremely out of the ordinary” and that Mr. Gasper acted alone and without authority of the agency’s Oversight Commission.

Nothing personal but rather an expression of my personal take. He has just, from time to time, been a wee too angry for me to tolerate. I say this knowing that I am completely expressive of my feelings, ON A DISCUSSION BOARD. I would never deliver nor can I take such hard expressions on my ears or on my eyes (I literally TURN OFF any visual of BushCo to protect my own "beautiful mind" and spirit).

Rant off.
