Common Ground within the Party

Dear Dems


I have been away from the country the last 15 months,because of a commitment I had with my national guard unit. I didn't agree with the war for various reasons, but I signed a contract and had more than 15 years invested in the military 10 years active duty last 5 years in the national guard
Personally I knew that the war was bullshit but I took and oath to serve and protect my country. I am aware that there is a good chance that I may have to return to Iraq once more time.
You see I support troops because they have a job to do,second they are sons,daughters,husbands and wives,mothers and fathers. And almost 1700 US soldiers have been killed because of bullshit and lies.
And a countless numbers of US soldiers have been crippled for life,lets not forget the numbers of innocent have lost there lives in the process because of this also/
Upon my return I have noticed a large amount of infighting within the party based on ideas and beliefs,based on the simplest of things for various reasons.
Is there a common ground within the party somewhere. Everyone has different values and beliefs within his or her own self.

Meaning if you dont agree with the extreme dems and you may should show a sign of conservatism within reason.. You are looked at like you just got off an alien spaceship and you have three heads.
I was born and raised as a democratic and still believe in the party.But there must be some common ground somewhere within our self on the what is best for the cause for the good of all.
This is my concept of a liberal

Some Americans define liberals as those who support the use of government power to promote equality. liberals also are more likely to openly support the legitimacy of government social intervention than are conservatives.
Support for government social programs such as welfare, medical care, unemployment benefits, and retirement programs.
Support for increased funding for public education and for teachers' unions.
Support for trade unions and government protections for organized labor.
Regulation of business - OSHA, against child labor, monopolistic practices, etc.
Support for civil rights

and thank you for raising the level of our discussion here - you did it in a very classy and thoughtful way.

i've tried to help bring the dischord down and help the differing sides find common ground, only have them turn on me for trying to be their better angel. i'm not sure what the answer is but i agree that we need to get our shit together before the mid-term campaign.

seems the party is really going through a transformation right now. big changes in grassroots, funding, party structure - winds of change are kicking up some dust but all sides agree that the fresh air is good.

i hope nobody clobbers a fellow dem, but i've learned to step away if possible. not a solution i know.

That is the unifying factor. After that, it's up for grabs.

I try to keep an open mind and attempt to understand where a person is coming from but I always give more weight to posts like yours that are thoughtful.
