NOT MEMO - MINUTES, MINUTES are more Legally Binding

PLEASE pass the word and the word is MINUTES and NOT memo.. CALL it MINUTES if you will - why?

a Post-it note is a memo, at least in joe sixpack's world.. but the MINUTES of a MEETING are much more binding, legally and psychologically..

Tell everyone to call it MINUTES, otherwise we are playing into the right wing's word games and give them room for dismissal..

And keep this kicked so others can see it if you will, it's an important distinction!

And it's true, as well. The document is the official minutes of that July 2002 meeting.

I think the London Times inadvertently confused the issue by referring to it correctly as "minutes" in one May 1st article, while titling the May 1st reprint of the actual minutes "The secret Downing Street memo".

You are absolutely right. The Downing Street MINUTES were part of an official meeting. Minutes provide an OFFICIAL record....a memo does not. The Republicans want to spin the DSM into a mere postette-note message. At the same time they intend to mock the Democrats by labeling the Democrats as "tin-foil hats" unwilling to give up their conspiracy theories! It is all part of their re-framing efforts. (Republicans will ALWAYS refer to it as a mere "memo" as well as continue to mock the Democrats for being desperate. And, if we do not correct them EVERY TIME, Republicans will successfully DIMINISH the importance of the Downing Street MINUTES).

I read an article today in the Los Angeles Times by M. Kinsley where he referred to it as "a SECRET MEMO..." ..."secret" memo.... If Republicans continue re-framing this issue in this manner, the MINUTES will turn into a "much-ado-about-nothing" memo.
