I'm glad Dean finally called a spade a spade. The republicans are a bunch of overweight white males with slicked black hair and pasty white skin. Their brittle trophy wives and annoying brats are just hangers-on. The people of other races are just sellouts and traitors to their own races. The real republicans are exactly what Dean said - but he didn't go far enough. How many years have the Limbaughs been calling Democrats and Liberals names and labels? So what is the difference. Dean tells it like it is and I'm proud of him.

1. YES!
Have you ever noticed you can usually TELL a republican by looking at one? It's amazing, but if you're aesthetically attuned, it works every time.

6. Bet you can spot the African-Americans
in a group, too.

Man, some even look WHITE!

This kind of stuff is just ugly.

1) I was talking about political affiliation, not race. And I was half-joking.

2) This kind of ultra-P.C. BS is exactly why Dems come across as spineless. We're so busy tip-toeing around people that we don't actually speak truth to the people who really ARE biased and backwards. Dems helped set their own traps. Now every white Republican who wants to put forward some heinous policy just has to make sure there are plenty of black faces on the podium. After all, if you disagree, you must be "racist."

I, for one, say "bravo" to Dean.

18. PC? Oh, dear
If you can't understand that Dean's cracks advance nothing except more meanness, then, of course, you'll encourage more of the same from him.

I guess metaphor is lost when there's no open mind to receive it.

I wish the Democrats had a leader who wasn't making himself the topic.

He's making every mistake possible.

9. Yeah, I've noticed that
even on the weekends, when they're trying to be casual. You can spot them out and about, pressed chinos and polo shirts, pasty skin, irritated expression, usually barking orders to wives or children, rocking on their heels or tapping their feet, jaws working.

They really do look unhealthy and unhappy, those 35-50 year old godfearing churchgoing pubbies.

2. Yes, bad hair. Especially the men.
Of course, that's what happens when (as Jon Stewart said, back during their convention) you refuse to let a gay person touch your hair.

3. speaking of overweight
my son said he can always tell who's a fundamentalist in this town. I asked him, "How can you tell?"

His answer? "They're fat, Mom."

After I quit laughing, I told him it wasn't nice to refer to people as "fat" - one should say "Significantly Overweight".

(Also, the women tend to wear denim jumpers......)

4. This is sad
What's the point of mean-spirited characterizations, which is, in my opinion, just the other side of namecalling?

Where does it get us? What's accomplished? How are we moving forward or establishing ourselves as standing for anything positive if Dean pulls stunts like this and makes himself the issue instead of all that's going and has gone wrong?

This is exactly what the Democrats are not supposed to be about.

It's all very sad.

19. No, that's not what worked
What worked was the Democrats' inability to respond effectively and positively.

Witness the latest debacle regarding the filibuster matter.

Democrats keep yielding - I have no idea why - and let the Republicans have their way with whatever they want.

Personally, I don't want to be part of any group that needs to be meanspirited, counterproductive, self-indulgent, lazy, ineffectual, and - worth of all - dervative of Republicans.

The Democrats need to do a lot to get back into the game. Right now, they're just bent over, grabbing their socks, while the Republicans run our country into the ground.

Look at how badly Dean's screwed it up. Why wasn't he talking about Bush's bad numbers instead of throwing idiotic characterizations around? Now, those numbers are ignored while Dean is the focus.

What a waste.

5. I don't believe in stereotyping
But when Limbo portrays women's rights advocates as "Feminazis" who all look like Andrea Dworkin, and when his ilk portray us all as Birkenstock wearing, latte drinking, Volvo driving hippies (I plead guilty on the Volvo), I have little outrage for Dean's stereotyping.

10. Borowitz from Wednesday (Funny stuff)
DEAN CALLS REPUBLICANS FAT, UGLY
Apologizes for Omitting Insults from Recent Tirade

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean apologized today for calling Republicans “pretty much a white, Christian party,” saying that he failed to mention that they were “fat and ugly” as well.

Dr. Dean offered the clarification at a press conference at the DNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., telling reporters, “Any characterization of Republicans as white and Christian is unfair, since it totally omits the fact that they are pretty much the party of the fat and the ugly, too.”

The notoriously outspoken DNC chief immediately drew the ire of leading Republicans who objected to his characterization of Republicans as predominantly white, Christian, fat and ugly.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn) lashed out at Dr. Dean from the floor of the Senate, saying, “Anyone who says that Republicans are white, Christian, fat and ugly is only telling part of the story, and Dr. Dean owes an apology to all nonwhite, non-Christian Republicans who are skinny and attractive.”

15. Dean's apology

Frist offered to furnish the home phone numbers of both of them so that Dean could apologize in person.
