It is my parental duty to protect my children from an authoritarian gov't trying to save face from political disaster in an illegal, immoral, unethical war.

1. When this generation of college students
gets off its collective ass and jumps up and starts getting involved in the world situation. It'll be their fight then, not their parents'.

Our generation marched, not our parents, because we were the ones subject to the draft. This becomes "Grow Up" time for the kids.

7. This generation is more interested in American Idol
At least they didn't all line up to enlist when Bush invaded Iraq like Attila the republican Hun.

9. True, and they didn't line up to enlist
after 9/11.

They're that smart, at least.

17. Uh
It's a website, honey. There is no there there.

The draft's an interesting notion. Personally, I support some sort of universal service for every high school grad or eighteen-year-old, but, in the case of the Iraqi invasion/occupation, as well as anything this so-called administration is doing, I think it would be just another concept the bastards would corrupt and pervert to their own venal ends.

19. Um .... was it not clear this was a METAPHORICAL march ? ..
Considering the fact that DU is a website ? ..

Cmon: did you ACTUALLY THINK I intended to define such a 'march' as a REAL march along avenues and boulevards and finally into DU itself ? ..

I simply DONT want Democrats to think THEY can use human life as some sort of bargaining chip in congress .... FUCK that ...

20. Given some of what I've seen here recently.........
.... yeah, I didn't want you out there, with a flashlight and a map, trying to figure out ..........well, you know the rest.

Nothing the so-called Democrats in Congress do these days surprises me. Well, yeah, some of it does in that it's so fucking stupid, I can't believe it. But, watching them lately, I think that they'll go for whatever they're offered, craven assholes that they are.

22. Not the blood of my children!
My daughter is fourteen. There are other teens in our family who are that age and a few years older.

I will march. I'll take my children with me. I'll be goddamned if I'm going to let this regime use my kids to further an illegal and immoral cause.

Civil war would have tragic consequences, that would outweigh the consequences of NOT having civil war ...

AS a pacifist, I MUST reject such calls to violence ....

3. We start the day they start!
We get organized, find some Duers/friends with apartments there-
or fund raise to rent a few, or motels rooms

We all work on taking a few days off here and there-

We start a fund to get parents and kids there=

We tent at nearby campgrounds and have someone outside
of the white house everyday! Oraganize a website for
DC visitors to spend a day. We go with our kids, we go with our parents. We go in wheelchairs. We do everything possible to
tell'em NO WAY! Our kids don't die for a lie!

8. Veterans for peace website can help
http://www.veteransforpeace.org/

Also, their link to 'War is a racket' by Gen Smedley Butler is excellent

This guy's life story should be made into a movie, especially how he put down singlehandedly the Bush cabal that tried to overthrow FDR in 1933 ! See www.ihffilm.com/r547.html

Put the word out !

14. Have fun.
In order to march on Washington nowdays, you have to jump through so many hoops that without a few major organizations who have experience with this and without a lot of money, it's near impossible. I don't know how anyone pulls it off. Did you know there are permits you have to fill out (12 copies please) for every different street you are planning to march on? And a presentation to be made months in advance? And those streets are under different jurisdictions--some are the National Park Service, some the federal government, some the District of Columbia.

Don't mind me--cynical today. I believe in marching, but I find it interesting how hard the powers that be have made it nowdays.

18. There is a march planned for September
I don't have the specifics, but they shouldn't be hard to find. I know you're talking about when the draft starts, but this I know is happening.
I trying to figure out a way to get my old crippled ass there, it's that important, I used to have a magic thumb that took me everywhere when I was a young man, maybe it stills works.
