Wow, security is high in NYC

Bush is speaking to the U.N. tomorrow, various controversial heads of state are flying in, some of the Dem candidates are in town. I just saw a huge motorcade with many kinds of police cars and at least one ambulance. The Secret Service is everywhere. I heard there was a big police presence near the U.N. this morning and that the police boats are patrolling near the building. There are sirens blaring as I type this.

There's lots of intensity in the old town tonight.

they shut down 1st and 2nd Ave between 31st and 52nd, and the FDR.

2. madness near my office (45 & Lex)

diverting all traffic on 45th from crossing to 5th Ave. MANY diplomats at the hotel there. HUGE police presence. one way traffic on Vanderbilt (along the W. side of GCS)

3. I know some people wanted to demonstrate

I don't think they're going to get near the U.N. They cut a pretty wide security swath around it on normal days, but I suspect it will be like an armed camp tomorrow.
