Dixie Chicks calling it quits??
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_821707.html?menu=

"The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more."

What a shame that the freepers have ruined yet another good thing :(

1. Read carefully
They are not breaking up, they are changing from a country band to a rock 'n roll band.

In other words, maybe now I'll be able to listen to them. :-)

While there are some country songs I like, generally like Rock n Roll songs better anyway.

5. please note that they won't alter their arrangements that much
if they do its a solo act with Maines.

Its really just a fond "f*&k you" to the fan base they've been walking away from for the past three years.

Given that those fans closed the door on them its a meaningless gesture.

They won't be rock, they'll be pop by the way.

4. Listen to your average "Country" station these days...
Shit, that AIN'T Country! That's something between Southern Rock and Hard Rock, with a few Bob Seger ballads thrown in for good measure. Add a well-schooled hayseed accent for the singer and some jingoistic lyrics, lyrics about getting drunk or lyrics about kids, or any combination thereof, and call it "Country". Mention of some old family dog optional.

At least them dames is honest. They want to rock their little fannies off. Good on them. Show us how it's done, ladies.

I can't wait to hear one of them rip into a killer guitar solo and make a lot of guys sweat. Maybe some barn-burnin' slide. That'll show 'em.

6. right...
...you don't find real country music -- Cash, Haggard, etc. -- on so-called "country" stations these days. It's just kind of rightwing muzaky crap. No grit.

I do, however, dig the real McCoy -- Hank, Willie, Emmylou, and all them cats & catesses...

8. Good for the Chix!!
I hope they still do some of their original style music, but I am sure the rock/pop crowd will treat them much better than the C & W rightwingers.

That said, even Merle Haggard stuck up for the Chix!!

9. most good country acts don't categorize themselves
johnny cash hated being labeled a 'country musician'. same goes for steve earle.

--- btw, i heard an advance of earle's new live album. everyone on this site will love it just for the stage banter alone

11. Chicks calling
They don't live in Nashville. They correspond with their labels via the coasts and now Country Radio (snub) won't play them, why should they promote "nashville or country radio". They are beyond genre. Fuck radio and nashville.
