1) Allen kept a hangman's noose in his law office and displayed a Confederate flag at his home. When asked, he said that the two racially provocative symbols were nothing more than harmless decorations.
2) In 1997, Allen proclaimed April as Confederate History and Heritage Month and called the Civil War "a four-year struggle for independence and sovereign rights."
3) Allen Opposed MLK Holiday, Civil Rights Act. As a state delegate, Allen opposed a Virginia holiday for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
