Torture Videos
What's the status of getting these videos through the FOIA?

Anyone know?

I can't wait to see Republicans trying to spin the contents of the tapes...

1. Everything the media puts out there has to be approved by the
defense department first. So those pictures before went out with their approval. The only way they can stop them is if it shows our troops whereabouts at a specific time (like idiot Gerhaldo).

So the government reviews all this before it comes out. Now how much gets taken out, I do not know, however, they have to allow some to go through or reporters, media that had the nerve to get this information would raise holy hell (I would Hope).

3. A federal judge ordered the Defense Department to
provide an estimation of how long it would take them to give an estimate of how long it would take them to prepare the videos for release. They were supposed to provide the estimate by Friday.

4. As I recall, the order specified June 30
Which gives the government plenty of time to get an injunction from an appellate court that will hang things up for the foreseeable future.

5. That's for release of the pics...
they were supposed to say on June 10 how long it would take to 'redact and reprocess' (?) the videos for eventual release.

6. Ah
So, just in case there's anything on the video too condemnatory or in violation of some quaint provision or other of the Geneva Conventions, our good Christian president's administration can remove it from the video. That's a relief! I thought some of the wrongdoers might be in danger of being brought to justice.

7. I don't think so...
I think they can only remove things which jeopardize security or reveal secret information or something... they can't take out anything just because it's too inflammatory I don't think.

I would expect they'll say it'll take them 2-3 months to go over them...

It's probably to your credit.

Thanks for the info! The Defense Department is probably at Lucas studios right now drawing CGI happy-faces on all the prisoners, and yummy chicken dinners all around
