Ashcroft's Assnt Told Congress Librarians Contacted 50 times
Ashcroft's Assistant Told Congress that Librarians Had Been Contacted Fifty Times

From the Liquid List blog: "I was searching my memory because I was pretty sure that the Justice Department had discussed the applications of section 215 of USA Patriot Act in the past. Dahlia Lithwick mentioned it in her long piece on the Patriot Act, so this paragraph is from that: '...at a judiciary committee hearing, Assistant Attorney General Viet Dinh did throw a bone to librarians, noting that in 'an informal survey of the field offices,' Justice learned 'that libraries have been contacted approximately 50 times, based on articulable suspicion or voluntary calls from librarians regarding suspicious activity.' He did not give specifics on searches of any other establishments.' So which is true? Is , where Ashcroft is quoted telling FBI Director Mueller that 'the number of times has been used to date is zero,' accurate? Was Viet Dinh lying to Congress? Is Ashcroft lying now?" Yes to the latter!
