A lot of us put down working-class whites who are conned by the right with wedge issues into voting against their own interests.
Well, Arnold Schwarzenegger's new ballot initiatives here in California are more proof in the pudding that we on the left are NOT immune.
Ah-nold got a huge percentage of the vote by putting himself forward as a "fiscal conservative" with "liberal social views", and far too many Californians will vote for ANYONE so long as they are "pro-choice" and against putting barcodes on gays' foreheads.
But no sooner did Arnold take office when he cut a deal to let Enron off practically scot-free free for swindling Californian electric ratepayers out of 100 million dollars.
And now he has led the fight to put initiatives on the ballot that would :
Make it hard for public school teachers to attain tenure (attack on public schools)
A new way of redistricting that I'm SURE they will figure out a way to use to gerrymander a la Texas
A spending cap that would override the voter-approved minimum funding requirements for public schools (yet another attack on public schools)
An initiative that would ban unions from using union due to contribute to political campaigns, never mind that that is decided DEMOCRATICALLY by the union (an attack on organized labor and democrats in general)
It's all just more proof that a thug is a thug, no matter where he stands on the mostly phony wedge issues. DON'T BE CONNED.
I'd rather have a someone like Kucinich in office any day over a "pro-choice" killer who would love to de-fund out schools and destroy the livelihood and political power of working people.
And the same goes for a lot of democrat "moderates", who use these issues to get into office in more progressive areas, but then vote yes for every phony war and Paris Hilton tax cut that comes down the pike.
