Poll question: What's the best job for Wesley Clark if he doesn't get the nomination?
Let's say you're Howard Dean. Let's say that for SOME reason, Wes Clark won't be your VP. . .let's say you decide to pick Edwards instead, or that Clark commits some gaffe during the campaign that makes him untenable, or he just turns it down, or whatever reason. But let's say you want him in your cabinet. What job would you offer him?

1. Excellent question!
For both posts you put up, that is!

2. "viceroy" of Iraq?
Is that the official title? Jeez, I hope not; that would be pretty culturally insensitive, considering its association with British colonialism.

4. not official title
No, that's not the official title. That was sarcasm on my part. Along with the crack about "Postmaster General"

6. The funny thing is, I've heard the media use it repeatedly.
Personally, I prefer 'Grand Vizier.'

3. Legitimate question for historians....
It was my understanding that the SecDef position has traditionally gone to civilians, not military types. Have we had previous career-military types as Secretary of Defense?

5. perhaps a few
I think there have been one or two, but not very many.

Actually, I don't think Clark would be a good SecDef. He's too much of a coalition-builder type guy, despite his background as a general. I think he'd be more effective at State.

7. Pretty damn obvious
But, I believe his first week should tell you that he's going to be wickedly hard to beat. No VP for him. Makes me sad for Dennis, but, I hope this courageous man (Dennis) will be on somebody's cabinet.

8. Secretary of DoD
I think he would excel in any of these fields, really. I'm very found of Clark, (supporting Dean) but just think how the military would benefit from someone who actually had experience in the military, as opposed to this idiot, Rumsfeld.
