To defend Gitmo, Rumsfiend mentioned it cost $100,000,000 to build
the prison alone, and about another $100,000,000 a year to run it.

I wonder at his reasoning that on one hand a hundred mil is too much plywood and razor wire to walk away from, yet $250,000 A DAY is to keep it open is too good a deal for the American taxpayer.

He went on to say that he knows of no other facility in the world with the capabilities of Gitmo, forgetting that we were told years ago that it was opened only to avoid the civil rights laws of the US.

Does the average conservative armchair chickenhawk watch these briefings with approval that "it all makes good sense to me"?

3. How could it have possibly cost $100,000,000?
It's a piece of crap plywood and razor wire compound. My lord. Just think of all the good that could be done with $100,000,000.

2. They could build 90 Guantanamos
With the money that's "missing" from the books of Paul Bremmer's Coalition Provisional Authority. I wonder why Donald's so careful about $100 million but so careless about $9 billion?

4. Good point....You should be in the pentagon press corps
My hope is that these people face prosecution one day, if only for emptying our treasury needlessly.

5. Jesus, that's like 16 HOURS WORTH OF IRAQ OCCUPATION!
At a billion a week, conservatively.

Nobody can afford that sort of money for ANYTHING---- except the Iraq occupation, of course.

6. They should just give the $100,000,000 to me
I would spend it very wisely, give the American people a full accounting of how it's spent (Lamborghini, vacation home in Spain, Cessna, aid to homeless and support of AIDS research), and I would collect just as much useful information as they do now. And no one would get hurt.

7. The "average CACH (pronounced COCK)" watches these things
with a 1/4" drill bit mounted in a slow turning black & decker drill in front of them and they slowly lean into it until it pierces their skull far enough for them to say "it all makes good sense to me". Lately there has been a run on 18" long 1/4" drill bits and the 1/2" ones are starting to go fast too.

8. $100mil to house and torture 610 "detainees".
Comes out to about $170,000 per prisoner per year. They must be wearing golden manacles.

Hell, why not just pay them a hundred grand a year and turn 'em loose in Vegas. Save money and inject capital into the "free market's" oldest profession.

9. Probably a lot of the expense is bottled water....
...Imported from France along with caviar and roast duck.

I suspect Home Depot may be padding the plywood contract too.
