Will SOMEBODY boycot government employment?
Totally frustrated with state NOT TO MENTION FEDERAL government.

What if? NO ONE would work for these crooks? Shut the bogus "corporation" down?

You can tell me this is not gonna happen .. do'y .. BUT WHAT IF?

Two hours on hold to talk to a life long GOVERNMENT employee who does NOTHING but transfer a phone call.

What a Life. Eh?

Frustrated in the U.S.A.

Thank gawed the Ira*is are not bombing the shit out of our country.

3. They're asking them to do twice as much with half the staff

so cut them a little slack. If you've ever been on hold for an hour on a toll phone call to a second rate computer company, just to talk to a guy whose accent is so thick that you're only catching every fourth word, you'll learn to appreciate those government people.

The watchword in government as well as in private employment is "speedup," meaning that people quit or retire and they're simply not replaced, their workload being divided among the people who are left behind on the job. It's something that this nurse knows all too well, which is why she's not looking for another nursing job.

It's worse in government agencies that actually have to do something to help citizens, though. All their budgets have been held to unrealistically low levels and attrition in employment is the one thing allowing them to stay within those budgets.

If we want a government that works for the people who supposedly own it, we're going to have to work to get rid of the Republithugs and the DLC Democrats who whore for corporations and hate people.

4. That strikes a chord that resonates to my toes!
An unfortunate side effect of downsizing staff through attrition.

(been there done that) in the private sector. Layoffs mean nothing more than double (triple) work load for the "lucky" few left to carry on.

Your solution may be the best. I'm in dreamland when I think there won't be some hungry person willing to transfer calls to a endless ringing phone.

It just occurs that IF the so-called government actually came to the realization that their tuxedos and caviar rely on LABOR, they might (itty bitty chance) wake up to the fact that their ass belongs to the PEOPLE.

One can dream.

5. as a matter of fact I have been doing just that, after applying to
some fed jobs about a year ago. I was looking at writing/editing jobs with the Forest Service and also Biologist with USDA. Most of the Forest Service jobs were cancelled after I applied and they just don't advertise for those types of jobs anymore. A lot of the biologist jobs lately are for microbiology and biotech, which are not my field. Both types of jobs and many others are now in Homeland Security and the Army, to which I REFUSE to apply! I rarely look at those jobs anymore and have decided I wouldn't apply for a fed job anyway, not under this unsavory and unstable admin.

8. Former government employee here
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 04:54 PM by XanaDUer
And have had it. Had the public scream in my face over things out of my control. Taxpayers won't pay for extra staff, so those of us left had to "do more with less" while making less money than my friends and relatives in the private sector, while being told that I was some type of leech for wanting things like benefits. I was not a federal employee, so my bennies were not so hot, either.

Oh, and "I pay your salary." Heard that a lot.

So please cut us some slack. Most government employees are good, hard-working people given very little resources and expected to perform miracles everyday.
