IMHO, the only reason we didn't knock him off is because we truly wanted to occupy Iraq.

If we had knocked off Saddam, he simply would have been replaced with another despot.

We wanted to CONTROL Iraq and and STEAL its valuable resources. PERIOD.

Too bad we can't ask the families of the HUNDREDS of THOUSAND of dead Iraqis if THEY feel they are better off now.

"we dismissed assassination of Saddam Hussein as an option because it would be illegal"

1. Illegal!!!! W...T...F?
What's the war? Almost legal? Slightly legal? Legal enough? Legal-like?

Hey, I disagree with knocking off Hussien, but that illegal statement is just laughably inappropriate on every level.

3. This is the exact conclusion I came to a while back.
What is the WH going to do when Republican senators and the public start seriously calling for troop withdrawal? They WANT to occupy Iraq. The plan was never to leave after we got the "bad guys". What cockamamie story will they have to concoct to get us to stay there?
