Tonight on Countdown (Olbermann) 6/14/05
From the Countdown eList:

Basking in the jurors' decision to acquit his client of all counts, Michael Jackson's lawyer suggested Tuesday the singer will no longer share his bed with young boys. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8213544/

Jurors took an anonymous poll among themselves early in their deliberations on the charges against Michael Jackson, and it was apparent that most believed the pop star was innocent. Juror Raymond Hultman said he and two others didn't initially share that opinion, but the majority eventually convinced the three that the evidence wasn't strong enough to convict Jackson on the charges they were deciding. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8209015/

Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann broadcasts LIVE at 8 pm et, and the count is never complete without you. Join us.

A 4-year-old boy died after passing out aboard Walt Disney World's "Mission: Space," a ride so intense that it has motion sickness bags and several riders have been treated for chest pain. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8214870/

We'll also look at some of the big news that got blown out by yesterday's Jackson extravaganza...

Just as the U.S. media -- albeit a month late -- scramble to get on top of the so-called "Downing Street Memo," the Sunday Times in London unveiled another leaked document which confirms and goes behind the message of the memo. Meanwhile, Walter Pincus of the Washington Post has a related, front-page report on Sunday. "Ministers were warned in July 2002 that Britain was committed to taking part in an American-led invasion of Iraq and they had no choice but to find a way of making it legal," the Sunday Times reports. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000955273

Interrogation techniques at Guantanamo Bay, including playing Christina Aguilera's music to keep terror suspects awake, have been revealed in a new report. The 84-page document, obtained by Time magazine, concerns the interrogation of Mohammed al-Qahtani - an alleged acquaintance of Osama bin Laden and an intended participant in the September 11 attacks. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/06/13/utorture.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/06/13/ixportaltop.html

A vintage cargo plane sheared off treetops and narrowly missed homes as its crew guided it to a fiery landing down a Fort Lauderdale city street on Monday. Three people aboard the plane were injured, along with two on the ground. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8214821/

According to originally confidential FBI documents--some written by Felt--that were obtained by The Nation from the FBI's archives, Felt played another heretofore unknown part in the Watergate tale: He was, at heated moments during the scandal, in charge of finding the source of Woodward and Bernstein's Watergate scoops. In a twist worthy of le Carré, Deep Throat was assigned the mission of unearthing--and stopping--Deep Throat. http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20050704&s=goldberg

X-rated wanna-be politician Mary Carey vows she'll be on her best behavior tonight when she attends a GOP fund-raiser that President Bush is headlining. http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/318855p-272572c.html

If you see a connection between those last two pieces, congratulations.

That's some of what we're planning for tonight's show.

Finally,
Some people seem to have all the luck. Just ask Donna Goeppert. Earlier this year, she won $1 million playing a Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off ticket, then turned around and won another million-dollar jackpot last week. "What are the odds of that?" the 55-year-old woman said, calling her good fortune "just unbelievable." http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/L/LOTTERY_WINNER_TWICE?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME
Then her house was crushed by a flaming meteor after it hurtled through earth's atmosphere.
Just kidding.

U.S. and Iraqi officials are considering difficult-to-swallow ideas - including amnesties for their enemies - as they look for ways to end the country's rampant insurgency and isolate extremists wanting to start a civil war. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8214702/

Investigators of the United Nation's Iraq oil-for-food program said Tuesday they are "urgently reviewing" new information that suggests U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan may have known more about a contract that was awarded to the company that employed his son. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8216602/

The Clintons' long financial hangover from Whitewater and impeachment has finally ended, thanks to millions of dollars in post-White House payments for speaking appearances and book contracts. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8216358/

Charles Jenkins, who deserted his U.S. Army unit and crossed into North Korea in 1965, arrived Tuesday in the United States for his first visit in 40 years. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8215988/

Global sales of flat panel TVs more than doubled in the first quarter to 3.15 million units, driven by significant price reductions supported by large cost savings in factories, a survey found on Tuesday. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8214342/

Deputies searching an impounded car found six live gopher tortoises in the trunk, officials said. Carl Franklin King, 43, reportedly told the deputies that he wanted to cook the tortoises in a soup, police said. King was charged with animal cruelty in addition to unrelated charges of burglary and criminal mischief from the outstanding warrants. The tortoises survived and were released. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TORTOISES_IN_TRUNK?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME

7. I rushed home from a board meeting to see DSM 2
and sat there dumbfounded at how awful the show was. I was (and I guess still am) a little pissed.

8. At least it is over now and wont interfere with the Conyers forum,
Senators now getting involved (see link below), etc.

There was going to be this media circus afterwords so at least we are past it.

Just think, if they found him guilty, we would be dealing with the sentencing phase, appeals, prison time, etc. The circus would have just got bigger.

2. Countdown could double its viewership if they'd declair
themselves a MJ Free zone.

My whole office has been turning off their tvs this week, sick of being unable to hear about anything else.

you'd think Olbermann would catch this opportunity to distance himself from the Abrams Report :puke:

9. He HAS to cover that hearing fiasco, it is too much to be ignored.
Ever since the 2004 stolen election he's been the only corporate media to report the truth, so he must be covering this fiasco.
