Has Rep Ron Paul (R)
always been anti-bush or is this new? I don't know much about him but I am listening to him on C-SPAN taking neo-cons to task.

He is mostly speaking about the great costs of war and the dissenters being regarded as un-patriotic. He is also speaking to the exporting of jobs.

1. I have not heard of him either, but I hope it is a growing movement
among the republican party, after all it is an election year soon, 2006.

but his views seem to be similar to some dems?

You just never know with republicans they can change on a dime.

3. I thought he was a Libertarian.
In any case, he's spoken out against the B*sh junta, for a long time now, I think.

4. One more time: Ron Paul is a Libertarian. He was their candidate for Pres.
at one time. He runs as a Republican to get elected.

Bottom line: there are points on which we and he will agree, but overall, he's NOT one of us.

21. Sorry, I've just posted this many times before.
Yet someone always falls in love with ol' Ron. Here in Texas, we've been dealing with him for a LONG time.

Once again, sorry for coming across as rude.

25. I haven't fallen in love with him. I'm amazed he's still alive actually.
He's been slapping the Bush** regime upside the head for a good 3-4 years now.

I will admit that it is often fun to use him in the faces of the repugs around here from time to time.

Ignoring Reality in Iraq

One quote:

Non-interventionism was the foreign policy ideal of the Founding Fathers, an ideal that is ignored by both political parties today. Those who support political and military intervention in Iraq and elsewhere should have the integrity to admit that their views conflict with the principles of our nation’s founding. It’s easy to repeat the tired cliché that “times have changed since the Constitution was written” – in fact, that’s an argument the left has used for decades to justify an unconstitutional welfare state. Yet if we accept this argument, what other principles from the founding era should we discard? Should we reject federalism? Habeas corpus? How about the Second Amendment? The principle of limited government enshrined in the Constitution – limited government in both domestic and foreign affairs – has not changed over time. What has changed is our willingness to ignore that principle.

8. Ron Paul is a classic libertarian.
He ran for president on a libertarian ticket several cycle ago. I forget which year. He is against government activity of just about every kind.

He favors a strong defense, but not offense. He has been rather consistent. Until GWBush it was most convenient for him to run as and caucus with Republicans, based on his no spend overall philosophy. He has had no problem being independent, and must recognize that Bush is an idiot.

27. Not really
He also is anti-choice, anti-gay, pro-prayer in school, etc. He's not a classic Lib, but a new variety of the Christo-fascist bent. He only dislikes the government when it's interfering with business interests, but he's never met an anti-privacy piece of legislation that he didn't like.

And to top it all off, he advocates for a return to the gold standard. Not an economic bright bulb either.

30. Say what???
The guy's opposed these neocons louder than the majority of Dems.

Better to read his writings, & speeches, than to depend on someone's opinion, that clearly knows not, of what they speak...he's got a lot of support from freedom loving Democrats, in Texas, & across the country...see for yourself...

36. Say What, Indeed.
Read up on him, decide for yourself.

Personally, Im very glad to have him fighting the good fight against Bush while a majority of our representatives and sentors tuck tail.

I dont agree with any representative on every single thing. Just like I dont agree with very many people on every single thing. He is supposed to represent the views of his constituents and given the task, I think he does a pretty good job of putting emphasis where it is most important to me.

37. That's because the times you hear about him are from liberals.
No one goes, "Hey, there's Ron Paul calling for the abolition of Medicare", or "Hey, Ron Paul wants to destroy the Endangered Species Act, get a load of him". Occasionally they do on the far right, since he goes farther than most of the other nuts in elected office.

Believe me, I'm glad to see him representing his district. His occasional shots across the GOP bow are welcome. But he's no democrat.

38. He's no christo-fascist
He's an anti-government anarchist.

Being against the Federal Government on a impossibly strict interpretation of the Constitution is not the same as wanting to install a theocratic police state.

34. The first time
I found out about him was with the Real ID act. He voted against it (him and two other republicans were the only one's out of their party who did). Then I saw Alex Jones' "9/11: The Rise of Martial Law" and he interviewed Mr. Paul in Texas and Mr. Paul called Bush and his gang of thugs "neocons" there too. If you're interested you can download that movie at http://www.mininova.org in the doc section under movies.
