Today: 1706. We're almost there. An 'unconsidered' milestone is a-comin'
According to Wikipedia, the number of dead at the World Trade Center, including the passengers and crew on the two aircraft, but excluding the hijackers, stands today at 2,755 souls. ( http://www.answers.com/topic/casualties-of-the-september-11-2001-attacks )

The American casualties in Iraq (as officially reported) stands today 1,706.

I remember how we felt when our Iraq casualties reached 100 ..... then 500 ..... then 1,000 ..... then 1,500. Today we stand a scant 1,000 from eclipsing the dead at the WTC. Today we can look back and wonder. Or we can look forward and consider ........

How will we feel .... how will **you** feel .... when our Iraq dead reaches and then exceeds the casualties at the WTC?

And you, George Bush. How will **you** feel. Will you say that you and Laura had another 'fabulous' year? Will you tell us how we need to stay this disastrous course you've set for us? Will you tell us how freedom is on the march? Will you find the time for another day of dress-up fun and youthful antics in the back seat of a jet fighter, your figure so dashing in your strategically padded flight suit?

Tell me, George Bush ... will you have, by the time this tragically inevitable milestone is before us, visited the grave of even one of these fallen heroes?

Can anything ever be more than a photo-op, George Bush?

Can you, just for once, George Bush, on this one day that is bearing down us, can you just for once admit this was all a terrible mistake. Can you at least sigh in earnest? Would even one tear be too great a price for you to pay?

Thank you, George Bush, for the pain, suffering, grief, anguish, and despair you've brought to all of us.

Thank you, George Bush .... for nothing.

1. I've been waiting for this number for a while.
I hope to hell that we can create enough stink for those who are still clueless to look askance at Mr.bush and his evil minions invasion and want them on trial for crimes against humanity.

7. I decided against counting Afghanistan casualties
only because, in my view, we were justified for going in there in the first place. Whether, at this point, it is still justifiable to be there is an open issue. Agree or not, I suspect we could all agree that a case could have been made by virtually any sentient being that going into Afghanistan could be viewed as honorable.

Iraq .... not so much.

3. I thought you were going to mention another significant number
It will happen a little sooner than yours --1776.
A time when the word PATRIOT wasn't attached to a colossal abuse of rights.
A time when colonists knew what they were fighting about and why.

Excellent post H2S.

5. And why do the Iraqis have to suffer with NO 9/11 connection?
The funeral is tomorrow for Idaho's first female lost in Bush's insane war. A 19 year old girl who had been a high school cheerleader and went into the Guard to get money for College.

Bush's legacy will not be pretty.

6. At the current rate of deaths, this will occur sometime in Sept 2006.
I wouldn't say we're "almost there".

11. Will you celebrate like a good überpatriot when the KIA count
reaches 1776?

I can see a tickertape parade, a waving smiling President Bush surrounded by beaming bankers in tophats, adoring suburban couples, children waving sparklers and golden retrievers frollicking in water sprinklers.

What a cookout that day we'll have in America, land of the dead.
