Poland to Cut Iraq Deployment by Up to 300
By Associated Press

June 15, 2005, 12:04 PM EDT

WARSAW, Poland -- Poland said Wednesday it will cut its 1,700-troop deployment to Iraq this summer by as many as 300 troops.

Defense Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski said Poland's force in Iraq in the next troop rotation would be "between 1,400 and 1,450."

His remarks came after a meeting with British Defense Secretary John Reid in which they discussed European and global security, just days before Britain takes over the rotating EU presidency for six months.

Poland had said the rotation carried out in July and August would reduce the force by several hundred troops ahead of an expected withdrawal at the start of 2006, but had not given a specific number.

British Seek to Thin Iraq Ranks, Add Afghan Forces

By SARAH LYALL
Published: June 15, 2005

LONDON, June 14 - The British Defense Ministry confirmed Tuesday that it hoped to reduce its troop levels in Iraq "sooner rather than later," and to send more troops to Afghanistan. But a spokesman said there was no "timetable, no fixed date" for the plan.

3. Do the Polish troops really fight?
I've heard of a few missions by the Brits, but the Polish troops seem to be either backing up the supply line or, I don't know, hang around being hot.

Welcome to life in the Coalition of the Bribed.
