I'm glad there's no clear front runner
The Gallup poll shows Clark, Kerry, Dean, Gephardt, and Lieberman all within a couple of percentage points on either side of Bush. This give no clear target for the Repugs. It also shows that the problem is their guy. There is such a backlash against Bush that anybody with enough name recognition can win. When the messages get out on the actual candidates, Bush's numbers will get even worse.

My fear is a repeat of what Gray Davis did during the primaries last year. He used his funds to cherry pick his opponent in the general election by attacking the repug he considered his strongest challenger. With a clear front runner, Bush might do the same. Now he'll have to wait probably until an actual primary, and it might be too late by then.

2. Please!?!?...surely you're not wanting Gore to get in at this point!
Definite loser this go round, even though I supported him in 2000.

3. makes for an interesting convention, in the back rooms of course
it will be the same old drunken lovefest for the cameras.

I doubt that the party will allow that to happen. If its not settled by Super Tuesday, something will happen to settle it.

4. Something will happen to settle it????
You mean like someone will come up with pictures, or worse, bodies? You can't mean that someone will have their arm twisted into dropping out for 'the-good-of-the-party'? Not in this day and age.

It would be pretty interesting if nobody had the clear majority needed to win the nomination. You might get a deal swung where somebody releases their delegates if they can get on the ticket.

5. Take a look around...
....the Repugs are already sending minions here to divide us. They;ve been told to use the word "McGovern: as often as possible. Also, "unelectable" and "waffle" are to be used.

But they get hysterical if you mention "Iraq vote".

6. Yeah, but we don't count!
I'm reminded of that constantly when I look at polls and threads here at DU as compared to what's going on around the country. Kucinich has never polled higher than two percent nationally, locally, or otherwise. Yet if you read enough here you would think he is on the verge of being a top-tier candidate. You would also think that Lieberman is going to have to drop out tomorrow.

DU might be the very definition of tempest in a teapot when it comes to the Democratic field. Nationally, nobody is falling out of the top tier, and nobody is pulling away. We just keep adding more candidates!
