Alrighty! I'll tell the grocery store story a different way. Here goes:
Every time I go to the grocery store, someone invariable races me to the checkout line. I need to get home just like they do, but I'm just not made out of the kinda stuff that makes people try to butt in front of other people. I think of myself as a helpful, kind person. I don't need to be first. But nevertheless, I feel saddened that there are folks in the world who seem to always think they should be first, it's like they're in a world all their own where no one else matters. Kinda like the Republicans who are ruining this country. We probably all have someone we know who we think is a decent person except for their politics. It's getting harder and harder for me to let them off the hook for the bad choices they make that are affecting so many lives around the world. Choices that lead to killing and torturing people. Choices that have allowed a crooked administration to rape our coffers for their own economic gain. I happened to notice that the lady who cut me off in this case seemed very well off. Maybe her actions were in line with her political views. I did her a favor, and she thanked me. I wanted her to know that favor came from a democrat, because that's the kind of people we are. When she practically chuckled and said she would never vote for one, I just felt like giving her a piece of my mind, y'know? I suppose I should have just been silent. Maybe I hurt her feelings or something. Gosh. Certainly her feelings are more important than mine, right?

1. Needed a bit more room. Finally, I'd like to say that for 28 months I've
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 04:33 PM by NoSheep
given my all to a business that has treated me so unfairly. I don't even want to go into the details, but my life has been a nightmare because of it. I'm out of there now, but my boss won't pay me 2500 bucks that he owes me. I asked for a cost of living raise and to be paid as a W2 employee because I'm not an independent contractor and he pays me that way because he doesn't want to pay the taxes. I've seen this man rip everyone off who I've seen him deal with in 28 months. He's a multi-millionaire with 3 homes. I run his business for him...I do everything myself. I have a college degree and 5 yrs experience in my field and get $14 per hr and no benefits. I asked for help with the taxes and a raise and he said he'd lower my pay by 5000 per yr or I could leave. And, sign a waiver saying I wouldn't report him to the IRS in exchange for the rest of the $ he owes me and a good reference! No way was I gonna do that. My boyfriend is unemployed at the moment. I have no other means of support and he knows this. He got a tax refund this year! Cheats on his taxes like crazy. Guess who he voted for? He doesn't give a damn for anyone but himself. How else could he vote for *? Walk a mile in my shoes folks, hell, you already do! This is happening to your country too. I'm somewhat pissed at folks like him, if you can understand that. No more being polite to these folks.

5. If you have evidence, turn him in the IRS
they may give you a reward, equal or more to the 2500. Do some research first, you might make out better turning him in.

16. The old independent contractor scam
If you want to screw over your boss good, fill out IRS Form SS-8. The IRS will then make a determination whether you are a W-2 employee or a contractor.

If they rule in your favor, they will bill him for your SS taxes. You can do this while you're still working for him or after employment ends.

Here is the form
http://www.1040.com/New1040/pdfs/1993/Federal/Forms/FSS8.PDF

Too many employers are pulling this bull- if you're feeling as feisty as you are today, ask him why he doesn't support the troops, after all, he is cheating the government which pays their salary.

I'm not lawyer, but that "waiver" will be laughed out of court. You can't be bound to not disclose that someone is breaking the law.

6. I used to shop in a navy base food store and marines were there.
I kid you not, they would make you stay in line and keep out of that section by check out and where the food was so people could walk around. Some times it took an hour in line to get out of the line and many women would really try to cut in . You could not bring kids into this store either. It was a big saving as I kept good records as most women said you did not save so I started watching if it was really worth all the work shopping and waiting so long and paying for the base child care. It was for me.What gets me in a local place only 1 or 2 check out will be open where at these bases every one was opened. I hate to shop where people push in front of me.

9. I can see how that may have been the right thing to do if there weren't
a war going on. Seriously. I just think a person's political persuasion is more important than ever. And that they need to think. And that they need to realize the consequences of their vote. And that's just my way. I'm outspoken, always have been.

41. I keep being reminded of Fahrenheit 451
The newly enlightened fireman feels like he is making people sad by making them think about the emptiness of their way of life, and someone (is it the girl?) tells him that they need to be made unhappy because their way of life is supporting a war. So pull them out of their happy diversions and their blissful ignorance.

I can't help it, I stay civil because that's the way my parents taught me, but when I walk away from an encounter, I can't help but think, "It's people like you who are killing us all."

24. Honestly, I believe posts like these attract disruptors
and we may have a whole new crop of them, but then what do I know?

According to some of the spineless/trolls i've read on DU over the months, you should barely whisper "democrat" if anyone asks you about your politics and you should never say anything negative to the people destroying your country, but you should be willing to spend months teaching them all of the shit they should have taken the time to study in school. Don't put inflammatory bumper stickers on your vehicle. Don't protest! Stay silent! Sig Heil! Just make nice and smile like little schoolgirls!

Anyone on this board who tells you to lay low, shut up, be nice to selfish, evil people, don't make a fuss, keep it to yourslef, powder all Repukes' butts...blah...blah...blah....well, I personally don't listen to them. They are not interested in getting anywhere, in my opinion. They just want to be comfortable OR ELSE they have an even more insidious agenda......

30. I appreciate that. Truly. I'm drenched in that southern ability to tell a
story. Both versions were absolutely true. But there are a million different ways to tell it. I'm used to being misunderstood. I'm glad some folks got it the way I meant it the first time. And I hope those who didn't will go back and think it over and realize their reactions were based on their own ways of looking at things-not the way I look at things. Your words of friendship mean a lot. Thanks again.

fwiw, the second way you describe it where you leave out that you'd been drinking and lay off on the laughing and hollering at her being uncomfortable does sound a bit better. I can help you tweak it even more so you end up sounding like a cross between Princess Diana/Mother Theresa/Bono. Interested? ;)

but really, trying to race people to the checkouts isn't something that's more common to people based on whichever political view they hold. There's just some things that have got nothing to do with politics, and being a jerk in the supermarket appears to be one of those things...

Violet...

If they vote for Bush, they deserve whatever karma gives them. If I can make their day a little more miserable by insulting their political beliefs, well...when I think of our soldiers sweltering in 120 degree heat in the desert halfway around the world fighting for their very survival...this uppity Republican bitch's feelings are the FARTHEST thing from my mind. I would lose ZERO sleep over her.

You did nothing wrong. As far as I'm concerned, the time for niceties are O-V-E-R. Once you start sending the country's bravest for your own financial gain, all bets are off.
